I'm probably going to be flamed by the purists for asking/suggesting this, but here goes anyway!

I reckon my S&T Pocket Sky Atlas is great except that, like all other star charts, it's printed for observers in the northern hemisphere. I spend my time finding the correct page then turning the book upside down to orient with the sky as I see it, then of course all the printing is upside down! I find what I want, but it could be a lot easier.

Are there any charts out there printed 'upside down' for us poor mortals at the bottom of the world?, or maybe one of the software packages has an option of printing that way? I can't be the first person to ask this?

Cheers
Chris

Chris,

I found the same problem, so I decided to do my own.
I took a minimalist view, showing many popular objects without too much unnecessary detail.
The file is Maps & Objects. You can download it free in pdf form at

Thanks Rob,

I knew I couldn't be Robinson Crusoe on this one!
I've downloaded and will take a closer look when I get home from work!

I use Cartes du Ciel all the time, it can be as simple or detailed as you like. Print off charts to use outside so valuable atlases aren't covered by dew.

Liz,
It took an insane amount of time but it, and astronomy in general, gave me some purpose following a personal loss.

Thanks, Rob
