:astron: Around midnight last night i wos doin da same thing (up, across, down, etc.). I then spotted my first nebula that i have seen in my 90mm Schmidt Cassegrain. It wos 30 Dor. in the LMC.

Den, i wos doin da same thing in Orion and i saw the Orion Nebula (M42)! My first nebulas ever. Pretty cool:cool: :jawdrop:

Spacegeek, Well done on your 1st nebulaes. Those 2 are a great sight. Try upping the mag a bit on both of them. Lots more detail can be seen. I wouldn't expect to see any colour in your 90mm. Takes a little more aperture to get any colour. M42 is best on a good night, shows a light shade of fluorescent green.... Really spectacular.

G'day space geek, once you get used to seeing nebulas and the like you will start to make out more detail. When ever these objects are above the horizon go back to them enjoy the sight and study them. You will be suprised at the detail you can discern.

You may want to try one of my favorite nebulas next M17 in Sagittarius better known as the swan neb (or the geeky name the omega neb;) ). If you want to bag ya first planetery neb check out M27, the dumbell neb in Vulpecula. And a couple of Globs M22 in Sagittarius and NGC6752 in Pavo.

Hope ya dont mind me telling you how to suck eggs.

The trouble I have is that it takes twice as long to read!! coz I have to try and work out exactly what you are saying.
My 21 yo daughter does the same thing and It takes me forever to read her messages. I think it is called 'SMS txt lingo'.

Wait until you see nebs in a BIG aperture scope!!!!!!!!!!!!!

M42 (Orion Neb) has quite a bright green colour to it where I view from through a 12" dobbie. But it also depends on your eyes. Geoff (Starkler) sees it in a pink colour!

Either way, aperture rules. Start saving!
