I have just finished reading Kaler "Stars and their Spectra" and believe it or not I found it better than the average textbook to read. Maybe I was a little more interested than in other subjects...;). Highly recommended.

I also found "Practical Amateur Spectroscopy" by Stephen Tonkin not too bad a read either, but I'd recommend reading Tonkin before Kaler.:) There's a lot more detail in Kaler.

Another book I have is "Spectroscopy - The Key to the Stars" by Keith Robinson.

What Spectroscopy books do you have?

C R Kitchin has produced a couple of good books:
"Optical Astronomical Spectroscopy" which covers the design and use of spectroscopes, and
"Astrophysical Techniques" which has a couple of very technical chapters on spectroscopes.
Both designed for "undergraduates"

Don't forget PAS..."Practical Amateur Spectroscopy" by Steve Tonkin; it's a bit clunky in places but helpfull..
G D Roth's "Astronomy Handbook" also has a very got chapter on Spectroscopes as does Patrick Martinez' "The Observers Guide to Astronomy" - Vol 2 both well worth reading....

Not sure if this topic relates only to spectrocope books (the title, which I have changed) or mone general ones on spectroscopy ... I'm assuming the latter.

I believe the Kaler, Tonkin, Kitchen and Robinson books are the core library for any 'serious' amateur spectroscopist and would also add John Hearnshaw's "The Analysis of Starlight" if you want an excellent history of the subject ... can be hard to find and a bit expensive. I have, but don't recommend, Emerson's "Interpreting Astronomical Spectra", unless you are very comfortable with a highly mathematical treatment of the physics involved. There are also a few other astro books with pretty decent chapters on spectroscopy at a more basic level and, of course, Buil's excellent website.
