With the death of Bob Denver and Don Adams I started thinking about some of the old shows I used to watch when I got home from school. There were some great programs around during the 60's 70's and 80's for kids to watch in the afternoon/early evening.

What were your top 5 shows from those eras.

Mine were, in no particular order.
Gilligans Island
Get Smart
Dr Who
Lost in Space (Ice in Space - dodo dodo, dodo dodo, :scared: scary isn't it)
The Brady Bunch (I know, sick isn't it  )

And Superman :D and Astroboy and Prince Planet and Marine Boy and Gigantor and the Beverly Hill Billies etc etc . I know its hard to pick just 5. Those members born after circa 1980 will be wondering what the hell we're talking about

Ditto to all those Paul,
Brady Bunch too, loved it.

I don't know if you could remember another called "It's about time".
About two Astronauts who crashland back in time into prehistoric times with cave people. Comedy v.similar to Gilligans Island.

Ah the good ol' days.

:nerd:

Oh how could I forget "Hogan's Heroes"

I still watch practically all the shows listed above! Most of them are on are on TV1 and some on the Comedy Channel and the rest on other PayTV channels. The good don't die, they just move to PayTV.

Bewitched, Munsters, Gilligan, Get Smart, Brady Bunch, Beverly Hillbillies, Hogans Heroes, M*A*S*H, Twilight Zone, Star Trek (every series), Battlestar Galactica, Jeannie, Pettycoat Junction, Green Acres etc etc, etc. are all on TV1,

Superman, Astroboy, Prince Planet, Marine Boy and Gigantor etc, etc. are on Cartoon Channel.

Other old shows are also on Arena (little house, Waltons etc), Disney etc.

I'd be lost without my PayTV!

Especially Discovery, Nat Geo & History Channel.

Many of the shows already listed make my list so here are a few that I did not see mentioned...and I don't remember seeing them listed earlier

I have no idea if these shows were ever on TV here in Australia...

The Andy Griffith Show...classic Southern US (read hillbilly) life...where Gomer Pyle was born and raised...Ron Howard starred as Opie Taylor (he was a young boy)...Don Knotts was Deputy Barney Fife...TV Gold...

Project Blue Book...(1978-1979) Secret US Air Force UFO files exposed...some debunked some not...cool stuff

I Love Lucy...veetavitagvegimin anyone?

01-10-2005, 11:01 PM
Yep, we had all 3 of them. I loved all of them.

Anyone remember Dobie Gillis? It was Bob Denvers' (Gilligan) first TV series.

It was a cartoon show but they banned it coz of it's name. Back then, spunk was a rude term for Sperm, and the tadpole was a symbol of the same. So therefore, the title was deemed offensive. Boy times have changed!

slice of heaven
02-10-2005, 07:04 AM
Yep. Bob Denver was Maynard G Krebbs...a beatnik

What about...Welcome back Cotter ?

For cartoons... Fearless Fly, Atom Ant and the greatest of all time (till the Simpsons came about) The Flintstones, though that was a prime time show.

Hey, you forgot Rocky and Bullwinkle!!!! I loved Rocky and Bullwinkle as a kid, then rediscoverd the adult humour in it again later!

The vast majority of the shows listed so far were favourites from time to time. Not only did I like UFO, but I also had the UFO board game!:P

There was also a show on TV when I was really little (early mid 60's) that was animated but it had real mouths overlaid on the character's faces so the lips moved when they talked. I think there were three characters, and it had a spacy theme - I seem to remember rockets... anyone remember that?

How could we forget ''The Three Stooges''
I recently found out that they had all passed away by the mid 1950's with Moe being born in the 1870's which was somewhat of a surprise

What a great thread. So many memories.
I remember watching most of those shows.

The Banana Splits seemed really good at the time, Uh-oh Congo, it's Danger Island next. I bought a video of it a few years ago, and it was so lame. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to relive your youth.

And what about "The Nutty-Squirrels"? The pair of Beat-Nik squirrels who wore dark suits, berets and had goatees, they spoke beat-nik speak and they had that funky jazz music intro and background. The tune was called "Uh-Oh" Uh oh, dooby wuh, di dibbity dooby wop, doo whaa doo whaa.

Marine Boy with his oxygum so he could breathe under water. Didn't work in real life, I tried it with PK gum and just got lots of water up my nose.

Gigantor, Gigantor, bigger than big, taller than tall. Not too bad, but not a patch on Astroboy.

HR Puffinstuff, Jack Wild was so cute.

Did you know that Julius Sumner Miller studied under Einstein? That explains the crazy hair do.

Don't you think that the quality and originality of the programs back then was so much better than today?

YEEHAAAAA!!!!!

After this thread got my "wish I could see it again" juices flowing, I had a real search session to find anything at all on "It's About Time", the 1966 show about two astronauts (Hector & Mac) who take a wrong turn and break the time barrier to end up back in the stone age with a cave couple (Gronk, Shad & their kids). They eventually repair their ship (a Gemini capsule if I remember rightly) and take off again with the family in tow. They make it back through the time warp and end up back in Los Angeles in their present-day. Then the second half of the series is about the cave people trying to adjust to modern city life in the 20th century. A comedy that was done on a budget but should have gone on longer.

Anyway.... I FOUND THE ENTIRE SERIES ON DVD!!!!!!! :) :) :)

Good old eBay!

$42 landed here Andrew. I suppose it'll be in NTSC format, but most DVD players/TV's cope with that these days. 7 x DVD's will take a while to watch :D I'm just glad to find it. I've been looking for it for decades.

I really can't wait to see it - the last time was in the mid-70's when it was re-run once only.

Everything i loved has been mentioned I think.

These shows were all intertwined in some way and theres one other I forgot. I think they were made by the same studio

Petticoat Junction
Casey Jones
Green Acres
Bevilery Hillbillies

Hogans Heroes is my fav all all time show.

Hey Hey before everyone caught on was priceless. Allnighters ending up with hey hey, ahh so good. Its sad all of it was not kept on tape.

I thought I was the only one that remembered Its about time, great price you got those for.

LOL! Her name was Imogene Coca. She died in 2001.

She also played the ditzy "Mary the Good Fairy" in Bewitched... and many other sitcom roles. Her most famous was probably as a dead granny tied to the roof rack in "Vacation".

A true comic genius....

Talking about theme music, here's a link to the Nutty Squirrels, with a real audio of their tune "Uh Oh". http://www.toontracker.com/nutty/nutty.htm
This predated the Chipmunks by a couple of years and is much classier than anything they put out.
