Which finderscope can be installed on 130EQ Newtonian

Hi guys~ How r u going!


Recently, I am thinking about my HEQ5 PRO GOTO Mount, and my 130EQ Newtonian telescope from CELESTRON, actually, I want to install a traditionally optical finderscope on 130EQ body, its current finderscope is red dot finderscope, I feel it's inconvenient for looking for star before using telescope body.

So, I want to know that can I buy an optical finderscope replaces the red dot on my 130EQ.

How am i going? i am not going anywhere, but if i was, i would drive?

if the mount for the finderscope is a dovetail type, then anything will fit in there just about, but even when you buy a finderscope it quite often comes with a dovetail mount anyway.

Andrews has them for $70 or thereabouts, and they come with the mount also, so really the answer is you can fit anything !!

As Duncan said, just about anything will fit if you have the dovetail. Failing that you'll need to drill a couple of holes in the appropriate place to fit a finderscope one. For a Newt I'd go with the right angled version, saves getting a kink in your neck at high viewing angles. :)

ditto what Bill and Duncan said.

But I'd just add an RA finder to the scope and leave the red dot finder alone. Many of us use the red dot finder for a quick fix, followed by a look thru the RA finder to get our object in centre of fov. Then whammo ! Look thru the ep and your target is there. A few seconds is all it takes with just a little bit of practice :thumbsup:

Haha~~ "how r u going" am I wrong? In my memory, "how r u going" or "how's your going" can instead "how r u", is it right?

Well, I found my CELESTRON 130EQ connection point for finderscope isn't dovetail type, which has two screw points can install "Red Dot finderscope", but actually, I didn't find any finderscope with screw points, all of them are dovetail type. ( HEQ5 PRO Mount can put a dovetail type) Terrible~~~


Didn't I should change my telescope body for a finderscope......

I recently changed the red dot finder mount on my 4" refractor for a finder dovetail bracket from Andrews. The mounting hole centres for the two turned out to be close enough to the same that no redrilling was needed. Just remove the mounting bracket for the red dot and screw the finder one in place (you may even find the screws are the same length). Do it with the tube horizontal of course, dropped screws/tools and primary mirrors don't mix.
