I have a Canon 30D which requires the N3 plug. I do have a spare remote that I could use for this, and some USB cables. Wondering if the actual DSUSB adapter can be DIY'd somehow. Any ideas or thoughts?

I think the software for this is free but he has proprietary rights on the design used. That doesn't mean you couldn't design your own but USB control is alot more complicated than a serial port control.

An easier version is use DSLR Shutter from stark labs (http://www.stark-labs.com/DSLR_Shutter.html) (a serial port control) & maybe a USB converter cable if you only have USB ports.

I'm doing that at present. I'm using this opto coupler design (although leaving out the focus diode):

Here are some other ideas:

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Problem is 30D doesn't have live view or bulb setting available via its USB interface. To do bulb settings it needs the N3 pin connection to be used. So even to use DSLR Focus I'd need the DSUSB adapter.

The N3 connector is just a different connection version of the 2.5mm stereo plug I'm using. It has a shutter, common & focus pin:

In a tri-pin config. Where as my 2.5mm stereo plug has the same shutter, common & focus.....just in the different format.

All you need to do is the same as me but use a N3 connector...I believe adaptors are available from Ebay.

I thought DSUSB only did shutter?

Got mine working now using DSLR shutter with a Jaycar (prolific chipset) serial to USB port adaptor.

Waiting for the potting compound to dry in the serial port back shell.

Works like a brought one!
