This is First light in my new observatory and 1st time processing an image. Ever.

Prime focus ed103

Eos 1000d iso800 2 min single exposure (looked better than the 10 subs stacked)

Darks, bias and tinkering applied in images plus.

Constuctive criticism NEEDED!

Thanks for looking

Well nice but thats not NGC5128

what you have here is Omega Centauri NGC5139

all you need is more subs try too keep exposure short about 1 minute per sub

Cheers

Yep more subs, use 5 darks to one light, about 8 flats for 15 subs. Your stars are nice and round. Focus is good. You could raise your mid tones a little and perhaps do a little in curves. I can see some noise just looming in the darkness there, but for a first image, that is pretty good. Good things will come your way if you continue to improve over this.

not a bad shot.

You're getting good advice here.
Suggest you push contrast a little

Bertt for a first ever image and processing and although it is not the target you mentioned, I reckon it is an excellent result, well done.

Hope to see many more from you, and enjoy your new Observatory.

Wow Paul, I'm the other way around.
I didn't realise so many darks were needed....I usually go about 1/3rd
on the darks to lights. Sorry Brett for the OT

Great to hear Brett, nice feeling isn't it? :) And a great shot to start
with too!

Did you give the Obs a name in the end?

Steve

My bad with the ngc number im shooting 5128 as we speak. I actually used 6 median combined darks and no flats.

I shot about 10 lights and combined (median) them and it looked kinda messy, like it was out of focus, I liked the single shot better.

Trev, can I ask why you say to shorten the subs? Ps thanks for the oatley help!

Paul, I'll look into the curves in Ip

Thanks Spearo

Thanks Leon, already enjoying the obs!

Steve, still working on a name.... Light pollution alley doesnt really have a ring to it!

Bert have a look at my post on Omega Centauri Crop and 1st Post

this is one bright object and the longer exposures as I found out tend to

burn out the core

I use ISo800 consistently with all images

try both and see how they compare it was onlt a suggestion as I had

success at this exposure length

Well on your way there Brett! Well done.

Far better to be a bit dim on beautiful omega Centaurus than burn out the middle.
