I love this region!
This image is a stack of 18 @ 1min.
Taken with the Canon 50mm F1.8, riding on top of the ed80 using the Mini Tower.

Lovely widefield Jeanette. How good is that lens for the price it costs. Well done.

Super detail in that shot Jeanette. I'm surprised at how much detail from such short subs. Must try this myself once I cure my polar alignment/drift alignment problems of course..

Thanks for looking.
Yes it was the nifty fifty I used. I had to crop out a bit of coma from the left hand side, but you can't complain about that when you concider the price of the lens.

Here I was thinking about forking out $2k for a Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L, the 'nifty fifty' looks to be a real winner!

Nice work Jeanette.

For the *vast* majority of shots, you don't need to fork out on a 1.4 or 1.2L variant. The 1.8 Mark II is very sharp. True, it's lightweight and build quality isn't grand and it doesn't have USM (uses ring USM from memory), but do you really need those features? f1.2 is very very very shallow DOF, you'll rarely use it imho. I have both the 1.8 and 1.4, and whilst the 1.4 produces nice bokeh, even its DOF is too shallow imho.

I guess for astro shots it might make a bit of difference in hindsight...but I still can't justify a ten fold price increase over the 1.8 unit...

Brilliant image Jeanette,
Such intricate structure and beautiful colour.
