Woah! Nice shots guys. I have a few shots that I was going to throw up, but mine are not all that good. I just took a heap of AVI footage & converted to individual frames & picked out the good one's. Most of mine are over-exposed of course, no settings to play with in AVI mode.

Andrew, My pics of the lightning have a great deal of 'flare' around the actual bolt itself washing the shot out, I've tried to get rid of it using software but It's not achieving the desired results....How come your pics don't have the same problem?

:thumbsup:Awsome shots, i can't wait for some more lightning so i can give it another go at capturing it on film.
If i get quality half as good as your pcs, i will be very happy.
They seem a bit too close for comfort though, was your hair standing on end:scared:

Asimov: I set the cameras Apature to f5.6 or 6.3 to begin with then depending on the storm and how the pics look I will close the apature or open it. I am surprised actually that the images wern't blown out, some storms do it, others don't. I guess I was lucky.
Trevor: Nah these strikes were a fair way out, closest one (the first one) was about 3km away. The closest strike I have been near was 3m away, it hit a power pole which I was parked next to, sprayed the car in sparks, but we were safe.

I thought as much. Thanks for the info. I have no control over aperture unfortunately....Only in 'still shot' mode. Here's some of my best shots, not very spectacular, but I'm glad I got anything at all. I had great fun while I was out there taking them, & even more fun when I was reviewing the video's this morning! I keep forgetting my camera has a mic on it! There was some choice words on one by me that I forgot all about lol! I remember it scared the hell out of me! :D & remarked while I was shooting accordingly...

LOL Trevor!!! I am planning on a camera upgrade but $150 for current cam is a little low :)
John: No worries mate, love seeing other peoples efforts, and techniques. What was the camera you were using? Oh will that be MO/Cheque or IOU for those prints :P

Andrew said You are one lucky boy. I used to test faulty cables for Telstra after lightning strikes. In one case I saw a 30m high tree blown in half and 20 or so metres of 20mm diameter lead sheathed cable (located 10 metres away from the tree) vapourised....

Managed a couple of shots as the storm went through Melbourne, not even in the same league as yours, you are the "lightning master"

Great Shots Trevor. I was watching your storms as they went through Melb and Geelong, very intense, much more moisture with yours and you had golf ball hail (unconfirmed report) Still Your strike rate was over 1000 strikes/hr at one stage, pretty impressive.
