For those of you that use Cartes Du Ciel (freeware star chart program), there is a great freeware addon called rtgui . (It also works great on its own).
Rtgui allows you to sort objects by by just about any parameter you can name and list those objects . Then by clicking on an object, CDC opens up a chart for that object and can even drive a motorised goto scope right to it !
Sample output for Iceman last night:
Galaxies brighter than mag 10, greater than 30 degrees elevation at 11pm tonight.
M77
ngc55
ngc247
ngc253
ngc300
ngc1291
ngc1316
ngc7793
I only just found out about this the other day, and now CDC does everything I could ask it to, and all for $0 !
Cartes Du Ciel (http://www.stargazing.net/astropc/)
RTGUI (http://www.rtgui.com/)
Hope somebody finds this useful. I give it a rating of four bananas :)

Iceman , if you read this do you think we should have a separate section for software ?
