View Full Version here: : tracking devices. (not astro related)
does anyone have any idea on how to turn a normal Palm PDA into a trackig device say for a car? I know you can turn certain PDAs into a GPS (which I have already done, so I'd assume it wouldnt take much more to turn it into a tracking device of sorts...
any ideas?

blackberry by telstra use push technology that keep track of their handsets.
i have thought of this, and the main hassle i see is the cost of using telstra wireless networks or the digital phone network.
when you can get unlimited downloads for mobile stuff then a handset saying "i'm here" all day everyday can be affordable
I assume you want it to track the location of the car.... to be monitored remotely? then it would need to transmit somehow.... The commercially available units for cars are satellite transmitters I think.... sounds a tall order mate.

write some .net mobile code that talks to the gps, gets the co-ords and then emails, or talks to a web service that you can log in over the net to see where your handset is

i'd tell you that i work for asio but then i'd have to kill you

my PDA has a gps reciever on it... surely it would just need a program for the PDA/GPSr and a transmitter?

Just paint a big Fluerescent coloured cross on the roof of your car and fly around in a helicopter all day. That way you would know where your car is at all times.

I remember seeing this type of thing on one of the current affair programs.
A GPS is hooked up to a mobile phone that SMS's location, speed etc. It also has a kill switch that can be triggered remotely if your kids are doing the wrong thing.

thanks phil, I remember seeing something like that. I was just reading the article and I find the views by the kids interesting :)
