It's an ordinary day outside today:
9.7°C
Wind 25 kph, gusting to 40 kph
1.9°C windchill
But on the positive side, we've had 24mm of rain in the last hour without a drop falling from the sky! You may think this is a problem, but it's a double edged sword...
I have a resident spider living in or abouts my weather station. The rain tippler must either keep him awake or dong him on the head as it works or something, because he keeps tying it up with silk to stop it moving. I've been meaning to pull it it down and clean it out (again) and spray the thing to keep the spider(s) out but haven't got around to it. The wind is obviously strong enough to have broken the silk ties and freed up the rain bucket.:)
Which is good news until the little fella ties it all up again.
When I do fix that I must stiffen up the pole its on too to stop the wind shaking the rain gauge...

I've been noticing that the weather is getting crappier every year.

We are wondering what to do tonight. It's 50-50 here and improving slightly.
Can anyone in the Canberra - Goulburn area give me an update???

We've had those damn clouds for the last week or more Kev, they have only started breaking up in the last day or 2, now you are sending them back. Damn it!
Awww, what do I care, I still don't have my KRudd money, so dont have my scope yet. Im sure it will be clear as a bell for a month after I get my scope.

Let me make a list describing the Perth conditions right now.
1. Cloud: none
2. Transparency: not too bad at all.
3. Moon: nope its not there :).
4. Wind: zero.
5. light pollution: not too bad from where I am but have filters just in case.
6. Wind chill: I am in shorts and a T shirt.
7. Seeing: I think I might go find out.

Yes it was clear in Perth last night and I had a crap fancy dress 21st party we had to go too for one of our neighbours daughters.
It was outside and a bit cool but and I was dressed as Gilligan.
Apart from seeing a really bright meteor burn up looking North East around 9:00pm I was bored all night.

Still overcast out here, with only a few spats enough to dirty the windscreen.
Cheers Kev.

I know the problem, I had one (perhaps 2) fella(s) do the same, cleaned it out every month or so for a while, then (t)he(y) decided it was a good place to start a family. The WS sensors are now in the garage, despite several attempts with insecticide I've been unable to successfully evict. :P
On the positive side we've also had some much needed rain.:rain:

and the moral of the story is this
if you want to keep the spiders out of your telescope - buy a weather station
geoff
:lol::lol: yep i think your right there Bill :thumbsup:;)
I was out picking grapes at at the local vineyard as part of our RFS fund raising at 7am this morning. The temp was 3.2 and didn't get much better. It was blowing a gale as well so I'd reckon the wind chill was in the minus.
On the positive side it was good incentive to get through 14 rows of Pinot Noir grapes in about 3 hours.

the weather in Canberra has been absolutely shocking, although what makes it worse is that in between the very fast moving rain clouds, there are very small clear pockets, and the seeing looks really good.

terrible weather here aswell, conveniently coinciding with the new moon. Walked the dogs yesterday evening and that wind was devastatingly cold. I

Was looking good in Perth clear all day then cloud starting rolling in around 4:00pm and it's still hanging around no wind to speak of so if it ain't gone by 6:00 then blows my chances of setting up for imagining as I've got work tomorrow.
Cheers
