How will you be commemorating ANZAC Day today?

My son Jacob and daughter Eliza will both be participating in the march through Gosford to the cenotaph, with their respective Scout and Brownie's groups.

Jacob can also play "The Last Post (http://www.anzacday.org.au/education/tff/bugle.html)" on his trumpet now - he played it in the School Assembly for their ANZAC day ceremony before school holidays. I'll look forward to having him play it for me later today.

My son is in the Army Cadets and will be in their full dress uniform marching with his unit and possibly supporting the veterans by being a flag bearer. There is history on both sides of the family, from WWII in the Australian Army and on the other side is the Coldstream Guards serving in the Palestinian conflict. But ANZAC day is not about war. It is about the sacrifice others have made so we can enjoy the life we have, the freedom, free of oppression and accusation.

We're thinking about heading down into the city for the march a little later this morning.

Every year I am reminded of the enormous sacrifice and courage of those who gave so much so that we can enjoy so much today.

I also pause to give thought to our Servicemen and women currently on duty overseas...

Mixed feelings. My kids are very interested. It has been great change over the last decade as Australians and the next generation pay fantastic respect to those that have gone before.

and then I read that we are needing to build up our Military to a level not seen since WWII. ( http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/806057/rudd-to-announce-huge-military-build-up )

I spose I naively believed that the brave and unselfish sacrifices of others could have stopped these buildups from happening :(

A quite day of reflection with my family, my dad who is no longer with us, served in the Middle East and later in the Islands above Australia. He was one of The Rats of Tobruk, he never spoke of his experiences during the War but it left a mark on him.

This is a time to think of the sacrifice of others, in all conflicts past and present.

This is also a day of reflection for me.
My father was in the resistance (Partizans) in Europe in World War II. He was shot badly in the leg and left for dead but survived the war. However, the mental scars persisted for many years. He died a few years ago.

Anzac Day is not only a commemoration of bravery and sacrifice.
World War I was the War To End All Wars.
Perhaps, the reminders of the past will one day produce peaceful solutions to world conflict.

Hey All, :)
I served 20 years in the Aust Army. I attended marches, Dawn Services etc every year. I opted for discharge in 1991. From there I attended Dawn Services with my kids for the next 10 years.

Now I treat myself to an easier life style.;)
I sleep in, chat with the neighbour over the fence, mow the lawn (2 acres) and watch the AFL in the afternoons.

No more Rum and Coffee at 4 AM for me any more.

This day is always a day of mixed emotions. A day of remembrance. Both my grandfathers fought in WW1. yes they were in the Italian Army but remember the Italains were with the Allies in WW1, however, that seems to have been forgotten since WW2. It makes me proud to know that they fought with the Allies for a cause defending the Italian Alps. If either had died I wouldn't be here today. Then I feel pride for the Australians who also fought for the Allies in this War, the efforts, sacrifice and struggles... and then not only this war but then every other war but all those since including those happening today. We do live in the lucky country. Although bombed from our shores our shorelines have ever been invaded. Thankyou to all who have gone before us to make this country what it is today, to those who have bravely taken up the cause for freedom, for those who gave their all... even their lives to the end. You all make me proud to be an Australian. Lest we forget.

we will be whatch my father march in the parad his name is tad davies i dont know if anyone will reconise the name but you never no he was in the navy and went though viatnam while the viatnam war was on i hope to to join the navy or army or airforce flying choppers(just to get my disiplene and my fitness up)

war is the worst thing so sad that we have to kill our own(humans)
to get the piont across to an other country
