I personally thought that the later Battlestar was one of the best-produced television scifi series ever. It eclipsed the original kiddy version made years ago by such a huge margin it's laughable. A little strange in places, and with a "spritual" vein running through it, it was nontheless brilliantly done. The first broad-appeal scifi that I can remember which recognises that there are no sounds to be heard in space...
Now - there's a new series (labelled science drama) that concentrates on the years before the current series - and the development of Ai which ultimately led to the Cylon War. Production values look as high as we're used-to in Battlestar.
Sounds interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caprica_(TV_series)

Apparently it has already been released in the US.

Yup, the pilot was supposed to have been very good. I was a little worried about it at first. I thought it may turn into Days of our Caprica when i first heard of it, but after speaking to a couple of yanks who had the same misgivings, I am looking forward to it.
From what they said, its much better than they expected and they will be watching. Not bad for a pilot. If you remember the BSG pilot, it was good but not great. So hopefully, Caprica will turn out even better. Here's hoping :)
I am downloading the pilot as we speak, so I will give you a report when I have watched it :D

Sounds okay - if you're into BSG, which handily I am.
Downloading the torrent too.

LOL! Rather than advertising a link to a download which may or may not be entirely kosher ( ) I'll advise that you Google it - which will protect IIS. It wasn't hard to find. I'm 70% downloaded...

Now that was frakkin cool. Very good start considering its a pilot. I'm in for the rest of the series.
It certainly hits on the whole religious aspect of the BSG series to a much greater degree. Some real world comparisons from our past can certainly be drawn. Very interesting. I'm hooked. Bring on the rest of the series.
If you familiar with some of the back story of BSG, this will answer some questions and fill in some blanks left from the series, concerning the origin of the Cylons and who played a part in their creation.
2 thumbs up.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Big W is advertising series 4 in their catalogue, I think it was about $30, we are HUGE fans and I am going to get it in 2 week when I get paid (just found a new job after a few weeks unemployed and $less). I'll be looking out for Caprica too.
Omaroo, I agree with your comments in your first post, it is an absolute masterpiece, with so many nuances through the series that we see something bnew each time we watch.
The first 10 minutes of BSG grabbed me by the throat and demanded that I watch the rest of the pilot and series. Good storyline, acting and finale, too. The first TV series, outside of Babylon 5, that ended in a satisfying way.
The first 10 minutes of Caprica left me underwhelmed  and I stopped watching it... :(
I think I will wait for reviews by IIS members of the entire first series before I watch the rest of the pilot and series.

I'll be interested to check it out if/when it comes to Foxtel.
Coincidentally I just finished watching the final series of BSG. I bought all 4 seasons on DVD I loved it so much. I loved everything about it except the way they finished it. Bit disappointed in the last episode or 2. Seemed a bit, I dunno, flat/boring/predictable in a way?

Big BG fan here!
I once got a set of blueprints sent from Universal circa 78/79
from a coupon out of a fanzine when I was a kid.
Later in life I felt it my duty to educate both my kids on how
good a series it was. They are not quite ready for the 'adult'
content of the recent ones....but give it time:D.
For the record I think the classic Viper and Galactica shapes
were the best.
I had to make my son one using the '78 blueprints, shown below.
Well ok...I made it for myself!:P

But, BSG as Chris said is definately the best TV series I've ever seen.
Astrophysically Psycho-sprituality Cyber-violence at its best.

BSG rocks. Period. I've got all 4 seasons of the reinterpretation and Razor (which I bought seperately, only to discover it included in series 4! Bummer, anyone want a free copy? :D) on DVD and was a huge fan of the original (cheesy!!) series when I was a little tacker. As Chris said, the new version is in every way superior, although I did get a good couple of giggles at some of the oblique (or not so much so) references to the original series in the new one. Will get Caprica on DVD when it is released and have BSG: The Plan on pre-order now. I also highly recommend the soundtracks, which I think are a highlight of the series :)
Too much BSG is still not enough.

I thought it totally counter-intuitive that the people left spread out and all seemed to want to be dumped somewhere alone. Huh??
I watched the pilot and 1st episode last night and, well... I'm not hooked like I was with BSG proper. I'll give it 1 or two more ep before I decide to continue or not.

I must admit I usually not a fan of preludes there are a few exception though.
My wife bought another BSG DVD called "The Plan", haven't watched it yet but it is supposed to tell the Cylon side (human looking) of the story.
Will wait and see how this looks before considering "Caprica"
