Hello,
My Losmandy SCT counter weight is a bit too heavy.
It is 2.5pounds (1.1kg)

Does anyone have a solution to a smaller weight?

Bintel tell me that is already the smallest weight?
But I am sure folk out there have previously encountered and conquered this problem.

Even if you dont have something to sell, I will be happy for any advice or suggestions.

PS: I don't necessarily want to drill a couple of big holes in the weight!
Looking for Plan B :)

A piece of hardwood (drilled and sealed) might be easiest as a lighter counter weight.

Alternately, attaching a small weight to the scope Assembly would probably balance things out with you existing 1.1kg c/w (eg. finder scope, or something affixed to the underside of your dovetail bar).

Good luck!

Hmm, wrap the counterweight bar with lots of duct tape :D

On a more serious note, a few days ago, someone posted that they could make extensions to the counterweight bar. You may want to track that post down over in the classifieds, as even without moving the actual weights down the bar, it would add its own weight to the system.

I use the smallest scuba diving weights for dive belts or buoyancy aids. I’ve got one marked 500g, 700g and 1kg although as they are cast lead units, their weight is not very accurate.

I spray painted them with a matt black finish to minimize any fall out from handling lead.

Cheers
