G'day, I'm going to be in Australia in a few weeks' time, in Qld and NSW and would like to do some deep sky observing. I'm bringing along a pair of 8x42 binos and I'll be in the Brisbane area around 11th to 18th May and Sydney area after 25th May.
Are there any individuals or clubs willing to share your fantastic southern skies with someone from the cloudy northern hem?;)

Cheers

Talyn,

A bunch of us travel to just out side of the northern end of Sydney, to Mangrove Mountain, at a Pony Club (check in this forum for the next date).

I think the South Pacific Star Party may be on at the next new Moon in May, however, a bunch of us will still likely go to the Pony Club for observing.

You'd be more than welcome to attend!

Regards,
Humayun

Hi

The place to be 22th-24th May is the South Pacific Star Party at the ASNSW dark site Wiruna near Ilford NSW. A chance to meet a large number of astronomers from all over and see our wonderful southern skies from a truly dark site. Many of the members of the IIS will also be there. Bring your winter woolies!

See the other threads on this elsewhere on this forum.

I sure we can work out something for you in the Brisbane area.
It's the week before new moon so you'll be able to get in a few hours of observing.

Hi all, thanks for the messages. I can't make the SPSP unfortunately as I am going to be going on a pelagic birdwatching trip from Wollongong on the 23rd May (I'm a birder as well as an amateur astronomer).

I'm setting off on Monday for a few days in Singapore before getting to Australia on the 26th April. I'm hoping to meet up with some friends from the States at 'the Deepest South Texas Star Safari' at Coonabarabran on 19th-21st May (I know these guys from a couple of visits to the Texas Star Party), but if I can get some observing in before then, too, it'd be great!

Thanks everyone.

Hi,

I am one of the Aussie 3RF volunteers that help to organise the DSTSS at Coonabarabran.

I think most people are not arriving in Coonabarabran until Wednesday 20th May and some are arriving Thursday 21st May. You may just need to look again at your tour planner and delay your arrival in Coona a day or so.

Cheers,
John Bambury

Come along to our meeting on the 16th of May at the Planetarium in Brisbane. There will be some observing after, but not Deep sky.

Good excuse to see a show too!
