Hello folks
I was wondering if any of you helpful folk knew of any dark sky sites around the Illawarra region?
I'm guessing the southern highlands would be my best bet as it's only an hour or so away but I've not really any ideas where would be a good spot.
Cheers
Steve

Steve, southern highlands would be good. What about kangaroo valley, camp overnight? Or any back road off robinson.

Steve,
I'm the president of The Macarthur Astronomical Society based in Campbelltown.
We have two observing sites, one at The Oaks and the second in The Belanglo Forest, just south of Berrima.
They are both good dark skies, with The Forest site giving mag 7.5 skies (naked eye) in the cooler months. We also have access to a cabin, so we make a weekend out of it at New Moon.
Your most welcome to come along as my guest and check it out.

Thanks for the offer John, would love to take you up on it one day.
My only problem is I work stupid hours so getting time to pack the scope in the car and head off is usually inconvenient to anybody else. Your kind offer is very much appreciated though.
Going to take a drive up to that area in a couple of days and have a scout around (Robertson, Berrima, Bowral etc) Google earth has given me a few ideas
