So I was out tonight for the first time in a long while (silly Brisbane weather) and set myself on a goal. Find M104. :D
After about 30mins of searching including running back to my desktop with stellarium saying ".... where?!", I finally found it.

Problem is though, it was quite incredibly dim - more so than I expected.
Can any filter bring out the brightness a tad more or is it something I'd have to move away from suburbia for?

As no one else has replied...

Your best bet for faint fuzzies is a dark sky.

UHC/OIII filters will help for nebulae, but not for galaxies.

There are light pollution filters, but as I've never used one I can't comment on their usefulness either for this purpose or in general.

Can't say strongly enough that there is no substitute for a dark sky. Sorry but no filter can make a light polluted location into a great place to view DSOs.

Take your "filter" money and buy petrol...and get to a dark sky.
