Greetings everyone. I'm new to this place, but have had a long standing interest in astronomy.
I have never owned a telescope, but did buy myself a good pair of binoculars about 6-7 years ago and started star-gazing. I was sorely tempted to buy a telescope back when I got the bino's but resisted the almost over-powering urge (thanks mainly to advice from others).
I have 2 young children so astronomy, like many things after children, has taken a back seat and I haven't used my bino's for nearly 3 years (and after 2 moves I am unable to find them :( ). Last week I decided to take my eldest son (he's 5) to the Newcastle Astronomical Society viewing night and see if he was interested.
To cut a short story even shorter, he was fascinated and loved it. So, the time has come for me to re-enter the world of astronomy. This time I am buying a telescope! I will not be denied! :D
ATM my thinking is an 8 inch Dob, maybe a 10 inch if the price is right.
Anyways, I'm sure I will be around asking lots of questions.
Cheers,
Jared

8" will be a little easier for your son to learn to handle. I loved my first year with an 8" dob.

I am new here as well. I recently bought an 8" inch collapsable Dob as I to was "Not going to be denied" <---top line :-) The few nights I have been able to view , damn you clouds [shakes fist] I have been amazed at what you can actually see. I am really looking forward to taking to Pottsville where their is less light pollution. :-)
