Results from my First Wedding Shoot - Tanya and Marvin

Back in late January, I posted about Preparing for my First Wedding Shoot (http://www.mikesalway.com.au/2009/01/30/preparing-for-an-upcoming-and-first-wedding-shoot), and finally it’s time to follow it up with the actual results from the wedding!

The wedding was in early February but a combination of very busy weeks and weekends meant it took longer than I’d hoped to finally get through and process the (literally) hundreds and hundreds of photos that I took at the wedding.

But they were fnally finished a few weeks ago and now it’s time to talk about what I learned and to present a selection of my favourite photos from the day.

I can't look at all the images you've posted yet as I'm at work, but, from what I can see, they look fantastic.

Mine will hopefully be ready by the end of this week (all black and whites are complete, half the coloured ones are done). :)

Hi Mike

First of all, you’re a very brave man in shooting a wedding; nerves of steel eh!:thumbsup:

The photos are very nice and you have achieved the remarkable result of showing texture in the lacy elements of the brides dress without driving the shadows to pure black.:thumbsup:

In the 1st one, the bride looks very relaxed and at ease, her face is alive and she is obviously very happy!:)

Have you tried cropping the central 1/3 in a vertical crop? I think it would remove the distracting details on the L and R, letting the eye focus on the bride and groom with the nice curve of the tree’s buttress leading the eye to the seated bride. Something like this copy attached.

Very nice shots Mike, you're off to a good start.
Wedding etc are very difficult to shoot as the pressure of the day really puts a strain on you as the photographer to get all the shots at the right time since generally you can't do things over if you miss anything.

I agree with Dennis' advice on cropping some of these as they look like they will lend themselves better in portrait than landscape mode.
Things to watch are vertical lines in the background (like the tree) which suit the photo better when taken in portrait.

All up though they've turned out very nicely especially for your first wedding shoot.
