I've been thinking about what could be the most useless things you can do with your time for an article I'm currently writing. Amazingly I came across one of the best examples of wasting time on the Internet. This is the enthralling YouTube video entitled "Watching Paint Dry" at;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1VEY7ndKCs --- all ten minutes four seconds of it! :eyepop:
Just Hilarious!!
Can any one think more useless than this example... :scared: (other than reading this.)
* Note: I can now say when someone says "It is like watching paint dry" I can now say I have done that!!

Hi Enchilada & All,
Just to save my bandwidth and from (unnecessarily) wasting my time, can you cut to the chase and tell me how it concludes?
In other words, does it dry in the end? ;)
Best,
Les D

When my ex and I got married and bought our first front loading washing machine, we sat on the laundry floor with a drink and watched it going round and round. Took ages, we had it on the max cycle.

Yes this could be painful in the dry season but last week it was depressing. It grew too fast and I realised I would need to cut it again too soon. Mowing lawns is not my idea of a useful way to spend your time either.

I need to explain that last post of "mine".
That was Igor, not me. He is a few sausages short of a BBQ. :screwy::screwy: Tries to eat the neighbour's cat, that kind of thing.
He finds watching paint dry is very exciting for him.;)
He is banned from the computer but Igor will be Igor.:P

When I lived in Cairns during the wet season, that was action! We had to mow the lawn 3 times a week. If you missed once, it was hell to push the mower through. I'm sure its a different story elsewhere - like here in Oberon in winter. The grass stops growing. I can go 3 months before having to mow the lawn over winter:D.
I think taking moodily lit photos of toothbrushes for catalogues must be pretty well up there as a waste of time.:P

Speaking of mowing the lawn, that's actually one of my favorite jobs around the yard! (yes I know there's something wrong with me)
We have a ride on and the area around our house takes about 1hr 45 min... great thinking or dreaming time; just nice to get out there on a nice day with the breeze in your face, the smell of the grass up your nose, the sun on your arms (yes I know...slip slop slap), the kids otherwise deployed, the dogs (we have 4 border collies) playing silly buggers , and a feeling of satisfaction when it is done (oh and keeping it short makes it easier to see snakes and dog bombs, did I mention that?)

ps. Igor behave yourself, you have been a very naughty boy.

Hi Kerrie
When you want to come down to Sydney I have a spare room all you need to do is cut the grass and a little gardening for free board and lodging.

PS all you chor haters I got in first!

I know this bloke who spends exorbitant amounts of time and money to look at little dots of light.
What a waste of time.
oops..... this is the lawn-mowing web group, isn't it?

I watched every second of that movie and enjoyed it greatly. A glass or two of wine will mildly enhance the entertainment value.

Igor is not a boy. He is a .... mmm ..er .. A worry. :screwy: Yes that's what he is.
My son, the pschycologist, says I'm a worry too. I don't understand. Its Igor that tries to swallow the goldfish, tries to eat the neighbour's cat or "cupboard" drinks the scotch. :mad2:
I've always been good.:prey::innocent:

Haven't wasted time reading the tread but I have just finished painting interior walls and noted that there is no reflected light which greatly enhances the ability to tell if the paint is wet , partially dry touch dry or very dry. Maybe someone has done a post grad or Doctorate on paint drying. That could be very interesting read .WHAT!!!!!:help::whistle::scared::f ace::stupid::reindeer:

The whole cultivating lawn thing and constantly mowing is really about satifying and satiating the urban illusion that we can tame, control and conqer nature which of course is a complete illusion :)

Yup, you are probably right Mark.
Or it could just be a greedy want to have somewhere nice for your kids to play, to lie on and look at the sky after a crap day at work, to keep the dust down around your house, to see the snakes or dog poos before they get you, to feel the cool and texture under your toes when knocking back a few with your friends, or to find your own little 'space'.
Mind you I do live in my own little world full of out-of-control illusions that make me happy.
Cheers, Kerrie:)

Hey Kerrie B, :)
Don't underestimate this "Igor". Some how He managed to show up in Sacramento California. 3 yrs ago. Then he followed me to Arizona in Feb 09.
I had two bottles of vodka to spike the punch. Igor stole & drank both and was sleeping on the back seat of the car.
I waited 'til he woke up to beat the stuffing out of him so that he would feel max pain.
He orders pizzas after midnight, then leaves the boxes under the bed.
He's a larrikin alright.
Happy Easter All.
Marty
