Hey IIS members:)
Today I met an IIS member in person.
I am a new member and a newbie to the hobby. This person made me feel very welcome to the community.
I have much respect for this member's abilities and achievments thus far.
I had a hundred questions to ask of someone with such a wealth of experience, compared to mine. I had to with hold the questions to respect my partner and not bore her by dominating the outing with only my interests.
I do not reveal the identity simply to protect the member from embarrasment. This way the member is informed of my appreciation and that all the members of IIS reading this know that there are some very good people amongst you.
I thank Mike Iceman and the IIS community for my partner's and my meeting with an established IIS member for a wonderful day out.
Cheers Marty:)

Erick, Don't let on like that the identity will be revealed by the process of elimination.
Cheers Marty:)

Only 5,774 members to go ;)
But it was a great move, Marty - there is such a limit to what can be said in a Forum. Face-to-face is great to learn.

Good post and topic Marty. I have met some great people through this forum and hobby. I have also learnt more by talking and listening to them.
Well done and all the best on the road to discovery.

It's always great to meet other IIS members, whether at local meet-ups, astro society talks or star parties.
It's great to put a face to the names and it can really help bond those friendships formed online.

:lol:Ron! It was a secret, how could you.
It was great to catch up with you Marty. Wish I could have been in better spirits. But the spirits had gotten the better of me the night before.
Poor Ros, she must have been so bored.
And I agree, thanks Mike, because without IIS, we wouldn't get these sorts of opportunities.

:)Hey Everyone,
I guess the jig's up. :ashamed: ( blushing ). It was a good day. We had some laughs. Thanks to all of you people for making this forum what it
is.:thanks:.
Thankyou to Astroron and jjj. Both of you have invited me along to the Cambroon night. Thanks, and I will try to make the next one, weather permitting.
What I have heard about these meetings is that they are a lot of fun. I would really like to see what you people see in your scopes. I have a lot to learn.
Cheers Marty

Your reputation precedes you. I look forward to our meeting in the near future.
Marty, It was a quick process of elimination
If there were one member who could deduce the identity it could only have been you.:lol:  I didn't expect it to be revealed within an hour of posting the thread.
Hard to keep any secrets around here.

That it is jjj. It is my favourite Qld winery because it has a friendly atmosphere and Darryl and Vicky are easy going fun people. :)
Always making my friends and me feel welcome. Remember the puzzled look on Vicky as we all walked in? How did we know each other?

Hey Mozzie,:) :hi:
you'll meet more at iisac
Perhaps I am uninitiated. :shrug:I assume that iisac means IIS at Cambroon?
I have been informed of such nights. They sound great. I have not had the opportunity to view through any other scope apart from my Celestron Nexstar 8se (200mm SCT).
I haven't seen how photography is done. Even tracking an object.
There hasn't been enough clear skies for me to practice much. I'm willing to learn and I promise to be a good student to IIS Members.
I'm also looking forward to further outings at the Hunting lodge in the near future;):) . With other members living near or visiting.
Cheers Marty

Hey Mike,:)
IISAC is the IceInSpace AstroCamp! (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/iisac)
Thanks for that. I may have been under the delusion it was Cambroon for some time.
Uninitiated I am.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
:eyepop: and where was my invite Marty
Hey Green OSG, :ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed:
Oooh! Eeee Aaah. Er. I was.... That is I
This one's easy I can get outta jail here. Free.:cool:
Well you see, Your Ladyship, I am the invited and its not my place to invite.
If it were I would not hesitate to forward an invitation to you. :D :innocent:
Invite the Green Thing and you'll not see your scopes again. Don't do it guys. (written in invisible green ink)
Just for you Oh Great OSG, I will strongly request that your presence at the convention be encouraged by the organisers.:):welcome:
Regarding the bus tour: It is a good idea but I can not see it get off the ground. :(
There are too many variables. ie. Not enough numbers to finance the trip. Time off from other committments would not syncronise adequately.
:scared: Then there's that area in Victoria/ NSW. No Astro Geek dares to go near. :scared3:. Swan Hill. Aaah sorry people I said the bad word.:lol:
Yes! I know, I will go and wash my mouth out with soap.
Cheers Marty

Hey Local Members, :):hi:
I would like to arrange a casual social meeting at the Hunting Lodge in the near future.:gday: Near Kilcoy.:party2: (Queensland) :welcome:
The aim is to meet face to face and have a little 'throat oil'. :cheers:The Lodge is also good for casual meals.
I have a friend, Colin, who is a good photographer and part of his business was photo restoration. Now He is into other business.;) An informed sort of guy who is very proficient with Photoshop.:einstein:Loves to answer questions on manipulating images. He has already voiced compliance.
If there is any interest I'll organise a date. The venue is an interesting spectacle itself and worth seeing. Refer to jjj's posted photos earlier this thread. Wine tasting the wares produced by the winery. :drink:Is on the agenda. Yes it is a winery.
Almost Forgot: Herein is a special invitation to the Green OSG.
You are invited.
My apologies to the members.
If I neglect to invite Green Devil Woman... er OSG, I will be ducking and weeving the green lightning bolts for weeks.:eyepop::scared::scared:
RSVP if interested.:)
Cheers Marty:)

Hi Jen, :)
:wink2: I could be really nasty and say, "We choose to live here, where we are well away from something that turns everything green or pink. Or rips off our toys."
But I'm not a nasty person. So I say this--- Have your own little meeting. Have a look around, find a venue. One that is free, sells/serves refreshments and is reasonably close. Then organise your own get together. Post a thread, check among your non astro friends for photographers, geologists/scientists, electonic technitions, etc. :einstein:Take a few pix and post them like jjj did.:camera: Even a phone camera takes shots that are good enough.
I chose the winery, "The Hunting Lodge", because it has a casual restuarant and free wine tasting. Its an hour's drive for me but its close to some other IIS members.
If you decide to go ahead have fun. ;) Even if only one or two people turn up and its your first meeting with them it can be a very rewarding afternoon.
For me, I think at most that turn up on Saturday will be 6 or 7, but at least 3 or 4. :party2::party::party2::party:
Cheers Marty
:lol::lol:ok have fun you lot :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hi All, :)
A brief on our visit to the Winery, The Hunting Lodge.:drink:
Jjj was in better condition this time. :)Ordered only a pot of tea for herself. Scones with lashings of cream and sweet jam all round. Collin and I indulged in the winery's flagship Cabernet 2005.
Amongst conversation topics of Photoshop, astronomy and photography,:camera: out came the magnificent pizza that this winery/eatery makes and will be famous for.:gday::tasdevil::cool::eyepop:
Attention turned to the "Yowie Port" and one liners of the "Monster" that haunts this area. :eyepop:We even took a video of an apparent Yowie stalking cattle in the distance. Having viewed it since with more sober eyes, the Yowie is just a bush.
Looking forward to the next one
Cheers Marty
