My two new pets...

I got myself a pair of Central Bearded Dragons during the week.. Thought I should post a pic of the two...

The darker one is Bubbles and is believed to be female, but at the moment its too early to tell.. The lighter of the two is Squeak.. Believed to be male, but again, too early to tell.
They are both around 13cm in length from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail, both 5 week old hatchlings.. They will grow to around 60cm in length in the next year or so, and have an average life span of 15 years!

Please excuse the mobile phone photo, they get rather spooked by the DSLR's and I didn't want to ruin the moment :)

That's fantastic Alex.

I was in Melbourne last week and there is a great pet shop in the city that has heaps of lizards, snakes, spiders, scorpions, ect. I was in there for ages checking it out.

Hah... you could watch reptiles all day I reckon.. My next pet that I'm already building an enclosure for is a NT Black Headed Python... There's really nothing like exotic pets... Sure, they dont love you like a dog loves you... thats not to say they can't be very rewarding... These little guys are so friendly and placid, you can simply scoop them up, sit them on your shoulder and go for a walk with them... They are great little guys.. and they do love a bit of handling...

Not sure about the python, but the dragons are great, look forward to more shots.

Thanks Eddie, There will be plenty of shots coming as soon as they get a little less scared of a DSLR... Damnit Im going to have to buy a macro lens... :D

Hi Alex,

Cute Dragons you have there, are you going to keep them together in the same enclosure?
They are usually loaners and can get quite aggressive with one another at times.
My youngest son keeps a BD (Bob) and a blue tongue (Winnie) they are awesome pets.

They will stay in the same enclosure until there is any signs of violence.. at which point I will separate them... They both came from different breeders, however they both came out of enclosures that housed more than 8 dragons each.. So I figure while they are still very young, they should be fine with just the two of them.. the enclosure is quite large, large enough that they can have their own personal space if they need it... around 3' long x 1.5' wide x 2' tall.. has 3 really good basking sites, 3 or 4 hides, a couple of good cool areas.. so I think they will be sweet together.. So far they have chosen to stick together like glue, never straying out of each others sight.. they even hunt together which is cute.. they sort of herd crickets into a corner then take turns snapping into the pack! :) They are very very interesting to watch... Bubbles has developed a real liking for waving... he/she waves at anyone who comes to look at them! :) Squeek is a bit more shy still... but still very partial to a pat every now and then...

Sounds like they have a nice enclosure, plenty of room.

Bob use to wave (swim) but now he is getting older he just smashes the crickets in stead of mesmerizing them. Tip to tail Bob is about 30cm and Winnie is 35cm. Do you hand feed crickets? My missus still hand feeds bob sometimes. :screwy:

haha.. hand feed... Nah mate.. my little guys are hunters... they have the knowledge for it from birth I've found.. for the first "settling in" period when I got them home I did syringe a little bit of baby food enriched with calcium/vitamins onto the tips of their snout for them to sap on.. however as soon as they were happy to hunt crickets, thats how they eat.. Occasionally Bubbles still needs a hand, as he goes in and pounces at his prey, but occasionally he'll miss the target and eventually just get lazy.. in those cases I'll put a few crickets into a chinese food container, and then put bubbles in there with them... he gets a good feed that way without my interfering too much by hand feeding.. He'll get the hang of it soon enough! :)
