What have you done Trevor? You haven't stuffed up your mirror trying to clean it have you? Probably have to take it back to where you got it from to have it repaired if you have.

Trevor
If it ain't broke don't fix it. I don't think you could even buy a replacement mirror from Skywatcher. I think Amaroo had two 12" mirrors he was selling can't remember what the f ratio was but they were a grand a piece (better mirrors though)

not cleaning it no im not that bad well i am because i droped a screwdriver in side it and i may just need recoating to get the scratch out i dont think it would cuase astigma i havent tryed it out yet so yes but it does have a scratch or a chip in it so i would like to get that out
:prey2::prey2::prey2::prey 2::prey::prey::prey::prey:please let it be cheap
Trevor,
Were you aligning the secondary mirror? If so, next time lie the scope on your bed or lounge so the screw driver doesn't go down the tube.
I gather you don't know the exact extent of the damage. I doubt you've split the mirror in two!
Don't panic. I dropped a red light torch into my 12" Meade truss DOB. It resulted in a couple of small chips and a slight scuff mark. Couldn't tell any difference in the viewing. The total damaged area is probably way less than the total area of all the other sh_t that gets on the mirror.
Try it out. You may not notice any difference.

Bugger. You need to try it first to see how badly the damage affects the view. It may not be as terminal as you think. Other wise there are several companies that recoat mirrors (all over east I think?). Try this before you attempt to buy a new mirror as I expect it would cost almost as much as the scope. When you get it fixed you might want to see if you can get something like this.

These are for the meades but someone must do something similar for the SW. Best bit is you do not need a screwdriver.
Good luck

I doubt you have scratched the glass Trevor, probably just the coating. If it looks ok with a test, let it be. On a 12" you'll probably not notice the difference. Recoating your looking at ~$300 + shipping, and thats without the harder overcoat.

Leave the centre screw alone, just adjust the outside screws as these will align the secondary if needed.

$300 thats cheap well cheaper than a new mirror

My 12" mirror is scratched and has numerous scuff markings but still provides excellent performance. If the mirror itself is not chipped, it's probably not worth worrying about.
i droped a 200g screw driver on it i dint know if its chiped for certan but with all the books i read it should be as i have not seen it for about well when i started the thread
