PHD with Gemini

Over the weekend, PHD seemed to be not working properly with Gemini on my GM8. If I set Gemini in photo mode and tried to calibrate, it took forever and then didn't guide properly. If I set Gemini to all speeds mode, calibration was quick and guiding worked, but was not the best (up to 2+ pixels variation). As far as I remember, I have always guided using photo mode, which seems the most reasonable thing to do. Can anybody offer advice?
