Yea i know i still need to get the focus better, and i still need to sell the car so i can buy a coma corrector. But hey I'm excited cause i finally took some long subs :)

3x Min 5x30sec processed in Deep Sky Stacker and touched up in PS
8" Newt Olympus e-300, and guided with PhD guider

Fantastic!! the Trap very nearly seperated and M43 a distinct entity!
Heaps of dust clouds tendrils and all. Man, I haven't cracked the 10 sec barrier yet, but I'm not the idiot some smug twerps in their ivory-towers might think! ....just because they might be too complacent to notice your achievements, don't be discouraged!!! Try StarGazers (Google it), if you are unappreciated by the "betters" here...

I could also offer you criticism of " could be better"-kind.. but for brevity just now, and to let more knowledgable others offer better advice, I'll leave it at that.

I hope to produce as good as this some day!!!

Jason that is as good an image of M42 as I ever did when starting out so don't be dispondent ...

Give members time to look at your images too ... not everyone is online all the time ... especially during the week days mate !

Keep at it ... remember this is a hobby so enjoy it ;)

Don't allow yourself to be discouraged or distracted from what you obviously enjoy. Keep at it. The best answer to those who stoop to criticise destructively is to ignore them but also to persevere and get better.

Jason my first pic of m42 had me jumping up and down with pride but it was just a fuzzy noisey blob and I had to explain to everyone what it was, The great thing Ive noticed about this hobby is every pic you take gets better, the more you do it the the prouder you feel so there isnt such a thing as a bad pic.
you captured the info now its just a question of tweaking yourself.
top effort keep at it.

ps when I got a clear expo over 15 seconds I threw a party, things really start to happen when you crack the minute mark!!!

Hi Jason,

Congratulations on breaking the 30sec barrier, isn't it great to hang your camera on your scope and image a dso. Everyone has to start somewhere, no one is an instant expert. Astro photography is an incredibly interesting, satisfying and challenging pass time.

You are rightly proud of this image and so you should be, how many people do you know who have imaged M42. Of course you are going to learn a lot and get better but you will always remember this image, where you started from.

Don't be put off and just enjoy the learning curve.
And you were right, this is a Deep Sky imaging forum and it is for everyone not just the semi professional

Cheers everyone I'm a bit on the brighter side now. thanks for the level change there Fred i have been struggling with that, I'm not sure where the red caused by bad seeing vs nebulously is and my camera seems very red too, quite confusing. Cheers Jeanette I'm using Photo shop 6, registax 4, and thanks to a suggestion from a forum member (think it was Trevor) just started using Deepskystacker.

Sorry don't mean to high jack. Ric my LX was a pain until I put a peterson kit through it. Now with the wedge, QHY5 and proper alignment 10min subs are fairly straight forward.

Hi Mark, the 200R's gears are fine. It's more about getting it onto a permanent pier with the wedge.

mmmm permanent pier now thats a good idea. iv also come across this TPoint does anyone out there know anything about it, will it help a beginner. I am already useing the sky 6. i should ask this question in the software section i guess.

very good
(you should see my first image ever which was of Orion...yours is far superior so you're off to a great start)
true it takes some of us a bit longer than others to get around to looking at posts and commenting (i'm the worst offender im sure :])

suggestion, playing with curves, contrast and levels in photoshop will usually improve all images.
dont forget to save a copy of the image BEFORE you have a play with it, then experiment away!

Just keep asking questions and enjoying what your doing.
I personally like the dramatic size of your first post, gave me a bit of that awe! factor.

Being a very raw beginner, I tend to rush and have had trouble coming to terms with processing...There are some great video tutorials on the net to assist.

Nice Image, and continue to have fun and ask questions!
