Hi folks,
yes, it's taken a year to get the rgb data on this M83 lum I had
lying around.
The weather this time last year was dismal as I remember.
Had this nice lum data and then the night sky wouldn't play ball till
M83 was over the meridian and into the worst part of my sky.
Here's a link to my front page if you'd like to take a look

If you've recently visited, hit the refresh or F5 to get it.
Hope your getting out and having fun...
All the best for now

Oooh, lovely image. Really nice.
Only thing I would add would possibly to reduce the star sizes a bit as the stars are fine but they take attention away from the galaxy a bit.
2 ways
Deconvolution on your masters for LRGB or a bit of minimum filter ( a tad)
after you get the stars selected using the colour range tool.
I wonder if there is a bit of detail in that inner core that could be brought out by lassoing the core and using shadows/highlights or even curves?
Greg.

Thanks Pete!
Thanks Steve..
Patience is a virtue ;)
Thanks a bunch Marc!
Thanks Mike..... but it wasn't a reprocess :D... so it don't count:P
Cheers for that Fred!
Thanks Peter!
Thanks Leinads
Cheers Andrew !
Thanks Gaz....
The waiting is the hardest part..... I actually forgot what I had till something in my hazed mind clicked..... ouch
Thank you Marcus:thumbsup:
Thanks Greg for your comments.
I actually find the star sizes fine ... they could be a wee bit bloated no doubt due to the sub lengths on the lum. in conjunction with F4 and being pushed.... but
and yes, on some images I've taken in the past, I've selectively masked stars and used minimum '1', then faded by 50%.... but in all honesty, I feel this image doesn't need it imo. Thanks for your thoughts any way... :)
I'm always aware of trying not to burn out the core on these bright galaxies.... this one has got me.... unfortunately the core is already gone with out any processing at all.... Aint no detail there I'm afeard !
Could always go back and do a swag of shorter subs and add to the master lum.....
but over all, I'm pretty happy with the final result.
Thanks all for your comments and input.
Always appreciated.
Cheers for now:thumbsup:

Hello richardo:
It is an extraordinary photo, the colorful one of the structure of the galaxy is wonderful.
You have a great capture there.
Many greetings

Really nice job on a classical object,
Love the image scale, overall structure and colour. I agree with Greg that there is more detail to be had within the core, specifically with this object, there are two very fine offset streams of material that imping into the core from the spiral arms. Most images of this object tend to burn that delicate detail out, however there are examples around that manage to capture it.
This a stunning image and bringing out the aforementioned detail would top it off.
Regards
Trevor
Mission complete Rich. Colours are spot on IMO. As others have said, perhaps a little more detail could be extracted surrounding the nucleus. Overall a great image. Well done.

Thanks very much Trevor and Jase.... and also Greg Bradley (first to mentioning it)... I've just had time after work to have a look at my data and see what I could do to extract just that little more detail from around the core periphery. Yes, did manage to eek out and defined a little more those dust wisps into the immediate nucleus.
Still a bit burnt out, but it is better than it was before...
mmmmm.... :whistle:Thanks guys
All the best:thumbsup:

Thank you Humayun for the really nice comments!
Cheers for that Doug... !
Glad I remembered I had the lum laying around in my April '08 astro folder.
Thanks very much Frank!
Hi Greg, yep thanks for making me go back and take another look. The extra tad of detail I was able to bring out was by just masking/ heavily feathering about the immediate core area then just decreased contrast.
I know that on some images I do tend to push the contrast if only to add some dynamics to the stars and object. On this particular lum I can't actually remember what I did as it was a year ago. Obviously I mustn't have masked the core when I added the extra contrast to the overal image... and things over cooked that bit.
Cheers chaps for the comments
all the best for now
Rich
