I want to say a big public thank you to Coleman Coates and John Hou from iOptron.:)
I just recieved a brand new iOptron MiniTower from these kind people as thanks for the article in Astronomy Technology Today.:D
I'd like to thank them in return for giving me the opportunity to write it and for their continued encouragement and support.

and a "big up" to CC and JH of iOptron.

I wish I could say thanks to them for their assistance in fixing ASCOM drivers for their Gotostar/Gotonova (GTS/GTN)..but...they have given very little assistance to those said users...in fact none!

They (iOptron) appear to be concentrating on the "Cubes".

Don't get me wrong ...the GTS/GTN work well but they has a few ASCOM & other issues (autoguiding) they have been dragging their heals on for over 2 years & they ignore emails & ban non-gratuitous users from their yahoo forum!:mad2:

I'm jealous of your "cube"...I don't think they'll be giving me one .

I meant to ask jjjnettie.

What handset do you have with your Cube? Does you handset internal clock run fast? I had quite a time with my GTS handset clock being around 18 seconds a day fast.

I changed out the clock crystal with a few differing types (differing pico farad capacitance types) & got it to running around 2 seconds a day fast...best I could get.

Better but still not as good as my $10 watch!

My little blue Cube is the most basic model, 5000 object database.
I've not had any problems with the clock.
I did have some trouble in the beginning with the goto just going anywhere, but I just went back to the default settings, deleting everything I'd entered, then started over again, and I've had no problems since.:)

Hi JJJ & All,

Hmmm ... now this concept has got me thinking ... Getting astro-gear in return for writing articles for magazines. Hmmm ...

I like the sound of this!:

[Gets caluculator out of draw]

Now, how many tens-of-thousands of words of "Deep Sky Delights" [taps on calculator] ... to receive ... telescope ... Hmmm ...

Now problem two (much, much more difficult) ... how do I get this idea past the wife?

(Just kidding Greg )

Best,

Les D

P.S Ooops -- have now gone over my emoticon limit for the month ... Bad boy !

Congrats JJJ! This should double your imaging capabilities... what you need now is a 2nd GSTAR, and have 2 running side by side... Double the data in half the time!! :D

It was a great article Jeanette and it's very deserving, there's no excuse not to enter the Astrofest now.

Cheers

Like Jen, I'm green with envy. Congratulations JJJ. Nice scopes, one for imaging I guess, and one to look through. Heaven on a duel-stick goto. What more could an astronomer want? (And nice background, too. Is that your place? Looks roomy.)

Cheers,

Brian.

It does come with a counter weight, but the option is there for guiding in eq mode.
Though for tonights first light I took off the ed80 and took a tour using the 120mm.
Great fun. Perfect night for it too.
We're on a few acres here.

Happy for ya' jjj. ;) Well deserved. :newbie: Being a newbie I don't know much about it, but it looks impressive and expensive.

My daughter would say, "Now I know what I want for Christmas."

It was a dream to use:D
The GoTo was spot on, putting the objects in the fov of a 15mm ep.
Yes, very nice.
