Hi All,
This is my first post.
I have some exciting news about my "little" Parramatta Observatory obsession.
There will be an archaeological dig at the Parramatta Observatory site. Think of our own mini version of `Time Team’.

Date and time of dig – Friday 17th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April, during business hours.
The archaeologist is Anne Bickford of Archaeology & Heritage, Sydney. She previously conducted a limited investigation, in 1988, which located the observatory building corners.
Proposal: To investigate and confirm the footings of the original observatory buildings and the remnant telescope piers through an exploratory investigation of the site.
Public, viewing only. Sorry guys, that means no digging for us.
Daily talks with the archaeologist at 11 am and 2 pm (about 20 - 30 mins each)
Contact details - Parramatta Park Trust 8833 5000
Price – Free
On Saturday May 2nd, archaeologist Anne Bickford and a colleague will attend the Sky Viewing at Parramatta Park and make a presentation on the archaeological outcome.Best regards,
Sharonr :-)

Andrew James researched the available documentation on Parammatta Observatory several years ago and turned up a few interesting documents from that era; you may find it useful to ask him what he found.

Bump.

On this Saturday night for anyone interested in coming along. I believe there are quite a number of scopes to look through. Could be a good family outing.

Cheers.

As Paul mentioned, this Saturday Parramatta Park is hosting a Star Gazing Night. Talks will include the incomparable David Malin. For more information click on events at the PPT Website. http://www.ppt.nsw.gov.au/
I've also included a Parramatta Park map. Close access to the various events is through the Pitt Street gate. The park itself will be vehicle free for the evening.

Best regards,
Sharonr :-)

Was a good night. Clouds rolled in around 8:30 - 9:00pm but the first half was good. Big turn out and loads of scopes. Enjoyed it thoroughly. :)
