Hello, Paul
We have a WO Megrez 80mm F7 ED II APO triplet which we use for astronomy and bird watching. It is an excellent ‘scope for both purposes.
Our 80mm has a tripod mounting foot that bolts to the ‘scope with an 8mm socket head cap screw. For astronomy, it is mounted in some WO rings which requires the removal of the mounting foot with an Allen key.
For bird watching, it is an excellent ‘scope although when used with a diagonal, the image is mirrored; that is, when a duck is swimming from say, right to left as viewed with the naked eye, in the eyepiece FOV the movement is perceived as left to right so sometimes, you have problems with following the duck as you have to remember to track in the opposite direction!
When left in the car overnight (on camping trips) the ‘scope takes a long time to warm up on cold mornings, so condensation can form on the objective until the ‘scope reaches ambient, which can be a bit of a problem for early morning bird watching.
Cheers
Dennis

The Megrez 90 is relatively large. In the case that it comes in, it's huge and heavy (case is quite large and weighs a lot). I'm not sure it would be suitable for birdwatching, but I'm not in to that so wouldn't really know what size/weight is tollorable.
I have a Megrez 80 SD as well as the Megrez 90. The Megrez 80 easily sits on my ball joint tripod head on my photo tripod whereas the Megrez 90 I wouldn't try, it's that bit bigger. Also, my Megrez 90 (newer version) doesn't have an L bracket, it only has tube rings, so that would make mounting it on a tripod head slightly more complicated.
Roger.
