I wanted to see what the QHY8 can do with narrow band filters namely Ha, Oiii, and Sii, so I ended up with Baadar Ha7nm, Sii8nm, and Oiii8.5nm, also wanted to learn more about tri-color. Over the last 3-4 nights looked good to try them, so I lined up on ETA and would like to share the results.

The setup:
OTA: WO FLT110 f7
Mount: HEQ5 Pro
Cam: QHY8 (Neb2)
Guide Cam: QHY5 (PHD)
Cam Temp: ~22C
Process: IP 3.75
All capture:
Ha = 1h 20m
Sii = 7h 40m
Oiii = 1h 20m

The following is my attempt using various combination, had to crop because the framing didn't line up:
1) Using L=Ha R=Ha G=Oiii B=Oiii

2) Using L=Ha R=Sii G=Ha B=Oiii
http://mywebsite.bigpond.net.au/ejcruz/AP/slides/CV_NGC3372_LHaRSiiGHaBOiii_Crop.JPG
3) Using L=Ha R=Ha G=Oiii B=Sii
http://mywebsite.bigpond.net.au/ejcruz/AP/slides/CV_NGC3372_LHaRHaGOiiiBSii_Crop.JPG
4) Using L=Ha R=Oiii G=Ha B=Sii

I hope the above will be helpful to others who are thinking tri-color.

Please fill free to advise as I'm always looking to improve.

Cheers
Eddie

Very nice clarity. I like the first one. Some of the others seem to be oversharpened? The stars look like it in 2) ? Or maybe it's just me.

:eyepop: Wow Eddie. That's awesome. I like the first one but they're all excellent. :thumbsup: I'm getting SII and OIII too this week. It's in snail mail right now :( can't wait :)

Well Eddie they are all excellent really...hard to choose a favourite actually.

I have recently acquired narrow band filters too and hope to have a go with'em this weekend for the first time, if I end up with images as good looking as yours I will be very satisfied :thumbsup:.

Would be good to see your images at a larger size though.

Eddie,

A great set of images - I also like the first one best - it would be great to see a true colour one for comparison.

Thank you for the advise, I'll go easy on the sharpening next time round.

Marc the Sii was very weak on the ETA, Ha and Oiii had really good s/n.

Strongmanmike looking forward to your results.

Peter_4059 I'm all setup to capture RGB tonight, but it looks like the clouds are rolling in.

Cheers

Good job at the different palette types Eddie. Never really been keen on the CFHT (HOS) palette, but your Hubble (SHO) palette looks great. Probably a little too green given its a strong Ha target, perhaps back it off a little to bring more of the OIII through. Really nice details in all renditions. Well done.:thumbsup:
