Sigh.... Provided about a million things go to plan in the next week, I'll be there.. Things tend to go wrong for me at the last minute ALL THE TIME! :)

I do very much hope to make it.. And very much hope the weather plays nice (which I doubt it will considering what I've just done today... :))

Just when we thought the wet season couldn't get much worse, off he goes to buy a RC.....
I see cyclone AlexN is due to form off Qld in the next day or so!!!! http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDG00074.shtml

ALEX!!!! Someone has to talk to that young man. The only way to get around the Murphy weather laws is when you purchase something like that it is critical that it gets delivered to someone else to break in. Then it can come home. That way the weather gods are fooled. ;)

And look!!! There's another low following it up. Arrrgh. This is it, there will be no more clear nights until he donates it away.

The cyclones were already there when I placed the order.... They are not my fault.. :D

OOPS - sorry Ron, in my excitement I forgot to add that I won't be able to make it that weekend - working again. Bugger! If the sky manages to clear up maybe a mid week visit again?

G'day Ron,
well the weather seems to be deteriorating for this weekend doesn't it? Nice little Low off the coast and forecast to deepen and drift south. So if we get no sky tomorrow night, the 28th seems the best shot. I must have really *** ** the weather gods in a past life. So while hoping for the best but expecting the worst for tomorrow, I'd say I am a very likely starter for the 28th.
Peter.

For all of you who were heading down to Somerset Dam tomorrow for the opening of the Ten Chain Hill Observatory - it's been cancelled due to the persistent cloud cover. It's showing no sign of easing off and the Low off the coast is showing every sign of deepening and heading south. So go vote and have a good day. Hopefully I'll see you on the 28th at Ron's.

Peter

That's just too bad Peter. I've been really looking forward to this weekend.
But as you said, there is always next weekend at Rons.
Time to put Plan B into action I think.;)

See you then, Dennis.

Well, its a bit selfish, but I can't get there this weekend anyway. Might get a chance next time you do the grand opening Peter...

I'm supposed to be cutting over a server next week-end. I'll see if I can do it during the week.

And the cyclone is my fault, I bought a mono camera

It's Alex's fault it's hanging around

Yeah, bring it on Ron, maybe, just maybe then for just one hour I can use my laser finder on the Meade instead of struggling with the optical one and aligning it with the dob. Its the one thing that I find unfair at any gathering of astronomers is that the Dob owners always must concede to the photographers. I reckon we should have 30 minutes with camera's "on" and 30 minutes camera's (and notebooks) off so we can all do our astronomy.

Of course I dont want to insult anybody so I will continue to concede and mind my own business.

I wonder if we will actually notice any dimming of the Maroochydore glow down the valley? I doubt it.

Hope to see you then, Dennis.

AlexN
24-03-2009, 02:20 PM
oh now now, its not conceding.. Its just that dob owners can manage just fine without lasers, where as photographers cant do their astronomy without laptops, nor without running exposures... A laser through a 30 minute exposure is just as annoying for a photographer as somebody breaking out a high power white flashlight right after you've become dark adapted...

Its not conceding to the photographers, rather a compromise. We dont like having to have thick red film over our laptop screens, but we do it in an effort to keep everyone happy... Surely your laser finder isnt that pivotal to your astronomy experience is it Dennis?

My MiniTower arrives on Thursday.:D Just in time for the weekend!
I reckon I'll be having so much fun just playing with it that I won't be doing any imaging anyway.;)

Turning the power off won't be a problem. I'm sure everyone here on the site wants to know what it looks like at Ron's place in the dark. I'm sure no one will mind if we take a few photos of people using their dobs with our DSLRs? I mean that is what they were originally intended for after all, terrestrial photos. I hope everyone won't mind my flash gun going off though. :)

Sorry I won't be there Saturday. I have someone coming over to look at a scope and I'm going to need the lights on for that!! So Cambroon is out. Happy Dobbing and DSLRing one and all. Remember that it is still possible to be totally in the dark even with all the lights on. I speak here from personal experience of course.

I won't be able to make it a full night Ron.
I'll have to be off early, 9 or 10pm.
But I'll be there long enough to show you the Tower of Terror and put it through it's paces for you.:D

Hi Dennis, yes it'll be good to catch up again. I'm training at Nambour now as well most Tuesdays. Maybe Tem will feel like starting up again when she's a bit older. Ted has started back again now and he's enjoying it.

Just Michael and I will be along at this stage.

Fingers crossed for a fine night...

Shaun
