Galactic cluster ?

Hi All

I took this last week when I was searching for M61, my EQ6 goes loopy every now and then and can't find anything. Anway it was 2 degrees off M61 apparently ... and it looked interesting in focus mode as I searched so I shot half a dozen 360sec shots. There were lots of satelites etc and one had a flaming great meteor streak ... didn't use that one. I count 13 galaxies. Does anyone know if this cluster has a name ?

I also reprocessed the Leo Triplet image from ealrier post with a bit of added data.

Nice one Steve! You may even be able to stretch the data a little more without introducing too much noise. A really good scene. Well done.

With the galaxy cluster, perhaps another bunch of exposures (say, another 20x6~10 minutes) and you could name it "Steves Ultra Deep Field"

I wonder how many galaxies you would be able to capture in that area of sky given more exposure?

Thanks Glen .. that's definitely the right cluster ... just rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise to mine.
It's nice to be " Abell " to put a name to it :whistle:... it allows me to find the area again having the ngc designations ... thanks again.

Cheers Peter ... it's usually good to add more data and reprocess from scratch with so many images. You only have to look at some of the stunning examples posted on IIS that are many hours of data.

Looks like your new dark sky location is working a treat Steve. The triplet image is a beauty :thumbsup:

Steve, I think the triplet could do with a little more stretching. It would emphasise the dust lanes as you brighten the mid tones. Don't over do it though. Only needs subtle adjustments using curves. This is purely my own tastes... If you like it the way it is...that's all that counts mate.

No worries Jase .. I just wasn't sure which image you were talking about. I would like to bring out the dust lanes in 3628 a bit more so I'll see what I can do ... glad you like it anyway.

Thanks guys ... my new location is an astrophotographers dream so far ! It's also very peaceful and lots of fresh air as a bonus. I can't stand going into Perth anymore amongst all the cars and trucks and people ... I can't wait to get home on the rare occasion that I have to go to the big smoke.

The Leo Triplet is always great to observe.
Now i,m waiting for someone to post the eskimo nebula NGC 2392,I might leave that in your capable hands :thumbsup:

Might be a bit late in the year for that one Kev ... from where I am with time difference etc ... it's pretty low in the sky when it gets dark here ... however daylight saving is due to finish in a couple of weeks thank god.
