Hey, styleman333,

I refuse to be provoked into responding and acknowledge that statement. Thereby ignoring it with the contempt it deserves," Who're the Dragons? Some netball team or something?

AFL rules anyway"!!

I take it you live in Qld under protest and are a true blue Vic. When I am in Vic I follow Nth Melb. I started following them in 1973 when they were truly the underdogs. I was listening to them upsetting Richmond and have followed them ever since.

Hello Baz,

I grew up in Adelaide. I followed Port Adelaide.
Called up for National Service. I did an electronics course and eventually served 20 yrs. in the Army.

I lived in Melb, Bris, Townsville and other places. I was a Collingwood fan in the days when it was still VFL.

'She Who Must Be Obeyed', is a staunch Lions fan. Birthday gifts of season tickets to the Lions matches each year kind of swayed me to again defect.
I live in Bris by choice. I prefer the outdoors. I like fishing etc.
I responded to your posting to bait any passionate fans into the open.

All the best Baz.

Marty (Confused AFL fan)

good for you Marty

Yes SA plays AFL these days and yes it was VFL when I started on Nth Melb. I was on my way to HMAS Cerberus to do a couple of Crypto courses before being sent to Scotland to supervise the Communications Equipment installation on our two new subs.

I also travelled a lot around Australia with my job. I spent 25 years with Naval Tech services. Based at Garden Island. I know a few of the Army bases. Stayed a week at Bulimba Barracks Qld and three at Smpson in Vic.

I am a Liverpool FC supporter of the only TRUE Football game:P
but I would like Souths Rugby League club to get it's house in order both on and off the field:(
I only want them to do better, because of the actions of the NRL which has decimated the true game in the name of money first clubs last.:(
The ousting of founder clubs such as NewTown and others was a disgrace:tasdevil:
I do always want the Brisbane Bronco's to win against the Southern clubs, but with divided loyalties when it comes to playing Souths;)
It will be interesting to watch the Dragons with Wayne Bennett at the helm for the first time since leaving Queensland:thumbsup:

lol ok follow a sport that practically one state in the whole world play .... Do they have a world cup in Afl ?:D

Regardless ....... everyone has a right to follow what sport they wish or what team they want. That is the beauty of sport, if we all supported the same and watched the same sport it would become rather boring

All i am is a fella thats excited that the football season is upon us and wanting desperately to finally see his team win the premiership. Been following my team for about 30 years and never once have they won it ( followed the steelers b4 the dragons merged) . Never was intended as a mock of any other sport in fact my light hearted banter never even mentioned Afl.

I'd better throw my 2 cents worth in

GO THE

Sea Eagles
Richmond Tigers
ACT Brumbies
Manchester United
AC Milan

And any Australian team or player currently playing in any comp around the world. That about covers the lot.

Cheers

Hey Styleman333, I agree with your attitude. A little lighthearted rivalry is what sport is all about in its intended purpose.

I become annoyed when I hear "fans" turning a sport into a war. That is when some extremists try to injure players or use other means to give their own side an unacceptable advantage.

After all a sport is just that, a sport, to be played with sportsmanship. Friendly rivalry between fans is just that as well, friendly. I quite enjoy an arvo' on the couch sipping amber with fans of the rival team. The clever remarks it provokes is testament to how competition invokes the best from people. After the game all 'vehemence' is forgotten. It is not a life changing event.

My Brother in Law was a junior in Collingwood's youth club. 'Woods 1958 Premiers. He thought them to be a good team. He waited to 1990 to see them win again.
I was a fan of Port Adelaide in my teenage years, the most successful professional sports team in Australia in those days. As a fan of Collingwood and Bris Lions I have seen them successful as well.:) My point is that you have not after 30 years seen your team to reach its zenith. I find that to be the determination of a very loyal fan and supporter. I can not relate to the feelings of dissapointment you must have felt over those 30 years.

I hope that they do well for you this season. BUT I still can't watch rugby and enjoy it. I try to watch State of Origin but I usually fall asleep before the finish. ;)

Cheers Marty

Hey Andrew,

You have a good name. Maybe it being the same as my psychologist son has something to do with it.

Forget all these inferior codes.

Maybe you need his help. Anyone under the dellusion that AFL is inferior
to rugby codes must have been badly mistreated in childhood.

What a strange place this is ... :P

There seems to be a real economy of language in Australia, any sport involving a ball is called 'footy' even if your foot isnt the primary object for controlling the ball, much as in the same way anything here made from potato is called a 'chip'. Its the only place in the world i have been (and i am VERY well travelled) where the term "yeah, nahhh" is a legitimate sentence !!

I am with Ron on this, Soccer (as i refuse to call it, along with the other 6.5 billion people on the planet) is the only true football, where you control the ball with your foot, none of this running around in tight hotpants and vest shouting "chase me! chase me!"

:D

Hey Toryglen,:)

Its a good point you make. Perhaps it is to do with freedom of speech. Check this out.....
A shocking abuse of freedom of speech

Who would think it would be allowed ?
SIGN IN A SYDNEY STORE WINDOW
'WE WOULD RATHER DO BUSINESS WITH1000 AL-QAEDA TERRORISTS, THAN WITH ONE SINGLE AUSTRALIAN SOLDIER!'
This sign was prominently displayed in the window of a
Business in CampbelltownAnd you are probably outraged at the thought of such an
Inflammatory statement. However, we are a society which holds Freedom of Speech as
Perhaps our greatest liberty.

And after all, it is only a sign.

You may ask, 'What kind of business would
Dare post such a sign" ?'
Answer: A Funeral Home

(Who said morticians had no sense of humour?)
You gotta love it!!!

God Bless Australia !
