Don't forget! Tonight, it's worth heading out to look at Saturn if it's clear in your part of the world.

There's a Titan Transit, as well as a Titan Shadow Transit.

For Eastern states, mid-transit is at about 10:15pm - an hour earlier in QLD. The beginning of the transit will start about 1.5 hours earlier.

Fortunately, the weather is clear this morning and predicted to stay clear all day. So I might get lucky!

How's it looking where you are?

Yes Mike. Looking good at the moment in Sydney. Blue sky with about 30% cloud cover.Like you I missed out on all 3 transits so far. This time might be lucky. A grazing Titan & shadow transit would make a special image.

Hi Mike

I think the effects of cyclone Hamish have more or less doomed us to cloud cover here in Brisbane. Clear skies and good luck to those elsewhere!

Cheers

Dennis

As per attached. Poor for observing  Great for the State :jump2:

Cannot complain. I've had my Titan/shadow transit for the year - and it was great!

Hi Mike,

Out here at Broken Hill for today we have rain predicted. At the moment we have about 7 tenths cloud and 78% humidity. Normally our humidity is below 20% and often below 10%. Last night there was a magnificent electrical storm just to the SE. Just had a look at the Satellite image from 6am this morning and it may well clear for tonight.

Regards
Trevor

No, but do you have any historical ones you can show us - showing the heaviest rainfall pattern over Victoria - the almost black colour! I've only seen that colour once - in some of those huge SE Qld storms of a year or so ago.

Hmm, without dates it's a bit hard to regen them, but here's a couple from November last year.

Melbourne as ever - clouded when it matters most. C'est la vie!

Massive dust storm just rolled into town from over the border in South Australia, there are a few drop of mud falling with it, doesn't look good for tonight.

Clear here, will not make any promises, but will be trying for some images of the transit.

Good luck everyone.

Good luck, Saturn watchers!

All cleared here, but stars twinkling furiously and I cannot go out tonight anyway.

I can see Saturn now, but it's very low and the seeing is too bad at this altitude to see Titan or the shadow.

And man the mozzies are bad!

Damn, clouds are coming back :( Can't see Saturn any more.

Not happy ..
Clear to the South, why can't it be clear to the north?

Robert9

Amazing. Clear in Melbourne, but a little haze reducing clarity.

Much coolness!

Can now see Titan like a pimple at the top of the planets globe.
We missed the last one here in Melbourne Mike so its our turn now :P

Pimple...that's what I thought it looked like too.

Galactic G

Am I right in thinking that the dark bit is the shadow, and that the lighter 'lump' on the bottom is the moon exiting the disk?

Starkler
12-03-2009, 11:05 PM
Yes, and yes ;)

Wait....at the bottom? huh?
Oh you must be using one of those backwards viewing sct scopes

Galactic G
12-03-2009, 11:10 PM
yes....I meant at the top of the disk....but the shadow appears at the bottom of the moon. T'was a poor choice of words.

Seeing poor with high clouds. Managed some avi's will process tomorrow. Can just make out the shadow but not Titan itself. Clouds roll back in at 11pm so can't really complain can I ?

Robert9
12-03-2009, 11:18 PM
Just a bit too much haze to view clearly with such a bright moon nearby. Could perhaps image a pimple??

well I got out of work just after midnight and it was 100% clear, but the Maccas burger and my cask of cosmopolitan were calling ;)

ahhh those dreaded mozzies, surprisingly , we had hardly any mozzie activity this summer, but the last summer was a nightmare. Maybe those 46 degree days in late jan/early Feb killed them off

All mozzies deserve to die

There should be some other opportunities next year for a few Titan transits for us southerners.

good news is there'll still be a number of shadow transits this year.
