Hmmm, Hamish is now a Cat 3 - a huge system with an impressive eye. Luckily, it seems to be scooting down the coast, and not coming in for landfall at this stage, though these things change.
We are on Cyclone warning, so prepared as best we can ... all Ok at this stage.

It's just started raining here, not a lot of wind yet. We have 6m tides this weekend so storm surge may be a worry as well. Lets hope it stays out to sea as it could be cat4 by tomorrow not good.

It was declared a Cat 4 storm at midday, today, and it's still intensifying. This storm could go anywhere...storms this size usually go where they want.

I have sat through a few of these myself. When it got too bad I used to get in the bath tub with a slab of beer, get drunk, sing songs and reminisce about the good old days :D.

They can be scary things Stay safe peoples.

Ciao Mark

I experienced a cat 3 near Cairns years ago. The wind shook and rumbled the house. The rain came horizontal to the ground. At night, no lights, pitch black. Only a little transistor radio to "teddy bear". The buffeting wind woke me several times throughout the night. I was sleep deprived. Concerned and at times scared. An experience to have gladly behind me.
These people under Hamish's fury may cop a cat 4 and that can take a house. I feel for them. If Hamish makes a sudden West turn then they are in deep doggie do do.

I would like to see this brute move south, Degrade into a tropical depression and dump 300mm into Wivenhoe Dam.

I hope the weather gods will comply. :scared3:

Hmmm.

Thanks Jen...but I'm not sure that's where it came from.

I can't find a close-up image of just the Qld coast, like Houghy's image.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place on that site?

David's image came from an Aussie website...the Bureau of Meteorology.

But thanks anyway.

Try this site Matt it's not the same as David's but it is what I use as well as the BOM site.

I've just gotten off the phone with my brother in law. He's staying on Fraser Island at the moment. He hasn't been told to evacuate yet.
Apparently all the campers left today.
He's off to the shops now to stock up on beer and food (LOL in that order ) and preparing to bunker down in his aunts house. A solid 2 story brick home.

matt
08-03-2009, 06:53 PM
And how secure's the roof?

As Hamish travels south the cooler ocean waters will degrade it. It may blow itself out and become a huge rain depression. A marriage between tropical depression nee Hamish and Wivenhoe Dam?

I'd like to see that.

Fingers and toes crossed, so Captain Bligh can forget about the Traveston Dam for a while:prey::prey::prey::prey::prey:

Enough rain to block the causeway and prevent me from getting to work would be nice. :D

But no more than that :scared:

But I think the Southeast coast had better bunker down folks and hold onto your hats, 'cos Hamish is comin' to town.

Just off the BOM Cyclone Tracking page. Not good, not good. Looks like Tuesday and Wednesday could be big days for surf on the Sunshine Coast. I feel for those people living in the open near beaches and river mouths.

Hamish is coming down to look at my new scope I'm afraid.
It's due to arrive next week.
Sorry about that.

 Hmmm! I have heard about you jjj, and how you manipulate the heavenly powers.
But I have never seen you at the "Hunting Lodge" Do you know Darryl and Vicky?

Oops back to the subject. Stop what ever you do to cause such venom to us. That is the ones who like to see clear dark skies.

You have over stepped this time, summoning a cyclone, Have you purchased a new scope???

jjjnettie

LOL Now you have me wondering.
My kids go to school at Mt Kilcoy, opposite Hunting Lodge. Darryl and Vicky are top folks.
How do you know them?
