RCW38 in Vela with 6 inch SN

Hello all
Last night the clouds and rain cleared to reveal a dark sky. It was VERY dewy at first but a cold SW change came through bringing cold and dry conditions.

This is RCW 38, also known as Gum 23, in Vela. 9x10 mins ISO400. MPCC coma corrector and LPS filter used. 90 mins at F3.6 is going fairly deep. Its a faint nebula.

RCW 40 (Gum 25) is just visible bottom left. I didnt initially notice it on the subs. If I did I could have recomposed the pic to fit it in better.

The southern sky has a lot of pretty little gems in it like this.

great that you got this Scott. I was looking earlier and it was soupy so didnt set up. ( i do want to get the comet but i think the moon will beat me to that). Fantastic shot and as you say - better framing might make another nice image

With the moon waxing, thats about it for Vela till around Last quarter, theres a few other emission nebulae Im after there.

I agree that area of teh sky around Vela is full of interesting bits and pieces and this is one of these bits, lovely mix in there Scott and some great colour contrast in some of the stars.
