I don't think you need to be rich to enjoy your stay in gaol.

Read some of the perks that prisoners get these days including private hospital treatment. As well as instruction on how to not get caught when they get out!

My solution is to do away with jails as they are today. Chain gangs is the solution for redeemables and execution for the non redeemables. Think of the money that we could save.:rofl::thumbsup:

Private hospital with your very own security. Nice! My health insurance doesn't have this option :)

My 1st job was in a hospital and a jail was not far away. Prisoners would regularly injure themselves so that they could get out of clink for a while. Their injuries were quite severe - burnt legs, self stabbing even swallowing things.

Jails are not healthy places - they breed criminality!

Putting a dollar value on peoples lives unfortunate enough to end up in goal yes they cost somewhat to house but to be kept away from the general population you need to do this .This is there time served for what ever reason .some people call them perks but in my experiance these are a matter of staying sane in a place you would rather not be.

I think that they should be put in old peoples homes, given kero baths and fed 3 day old mush.

Old people should go to gaol and watch plasmas, play pool and table tennis and work out in the gym with 3 square meals a day.:thumbsup:

Don't believe what you see on tv about prison in australia not a plasma in sight nor a pool table .tv can be supplied by families on the outside for the inmate just getting a book inside is a mission ,also getting a rifle but in the back of your head and made to lie in mud in acourtyard for six hours is not a replacment for 3 crap meals.

Visited people inside before and they do have pool tables etc.
Maybe not the plasma but in a year or two it wont be far off.
Yeah they have lockdown and all that but you can't honestly say they are doing hard time

Costs us, Mr tax paying public, over $100k a year to incarcerate an offender, personally I would like to have that money spent on our elderly.

Maybe all our elderly need to comit crime, get charged, convicted and sentenced to prison to get looked after properly.

to cut along story short i have a son thats serving 7yrs for bashing up a bloke he caught sleeping with his Mrs ,that chap was a policeman, one morning they hade a visit from services dressed in riot gear they were made to lie down in the mud it was raining if you moved you would get a rifle to the back.no reason for this but to tell them whos in charge.Goals are just a part of our society unfortunatly ,its hard to find answers for all these problems.

I am not out to trivialise what Al has said, but to add to the context of the issue - the policeman was the "replacement" the "lady" had to replace Al's son after his money ran out, the upshot was that this guy couldnt work and she threw his out as well and had the "policeman" replaced with another cashed up sucker. The woman is unfortunately a black widow, and it was very unfortunate that she preyed upon Al's son in the first place. Fate is a cruel master, but this mistress is simply bad news!! I am hoping that it will now be in the past and eventually he will move on to better things. He is a good kid - just had the buttons pushed in the wrong places - much like how i set up my gear sometimes;) Al if this is too much info then i will remove this post

I always laugh when people go on about goal. Having a pool table or a telly is small comfort for having your liberty removed. As for capital punishment one only has to look to the US and China to see the number of people wrongly convicted. You can return someone liberty but you can't get them back life. Al I hope your son does his time safely learns his lessons and moves on with his life.
Gman I’ve never heard a convincing augment why the Government should spend more money on the elderly then anyone else. The people who should be looking after them are themselves and their family. If we took better care of ourselves and our families instead of looking for a hand out from the government we would be it much better shape.

Tell me why as a society we should not look after our elderly citizens.
Most of them have paid taxes all their lives and have not had the comfort of compulsory and/or company funded superannuation
They have fought in wars to protect our freedoms and ways of life.
The aged pension hardly gives them even 1/8 of what it costs to keep a prisoner and that is before its means tested.
I pray that you do not become old one day and find yourself in a home, eating second rate food and then ask yourself, "Why does the government care more about the quality of life of law breakers than people who have only contributed to society and my only flaw is that I have grown old"
Remember most end up in a home either because they cant afford to live in their own homes and have to sell up or they need constant attention due to medical reasons.
