Hello everyone,
I am interested in purchasing an old vixen polaris mount circa 1986, but only want it if i can buy a motor drive to fit it. From the limited research i have found on the net the mt-1/sd-1 vixen motor drive will not fit.
Would someone here in their wisdom know of what tye motor/where i may be able to purchase one?
I have contacted a couple of retailers already & have not been interested :help:
if only it was a product bintel stocked
thankyou for any replies

Hi Daniel,
You need the Vixen MD-5. There is a Vixen Polaris mount/OTA currently on ebay at the moment here (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VIXEN-ASTRONOMICAL-TELESCOPE-Polaris-R-100L_W0QQitemZ260368442579QQcmdZVie wItemQQptZAU_Cameras_Telescopes_Bin oculars?hash=item260368442579&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1% 7C240%3A1318) if you are interested. The motor drives are not common though as they were sold as an accessory. Astromart is probably the best bet.
The tracking on the drive is very accurate, at least for visual observing.
Cheers, Steve

Daniel,
I got some motors for my Polaris (Celestron) mount from Astromeccanica in Italy.
These were stepper motors with a hand controller. It has a port to connect to an autoguider and can connect via a serial port to most of the common astro programs, I've used it with Starry Nights.
I don't have any details as I'm at work but if you want contacts, pictures etc, let me know and I'll take care of it when I get home.
(found the link to the site. It's now at microgiga (http://www.micgiga.com/microgiga_017.htm) - the astromeccanica is for the optical side of things,
Forgot to ask, how's your italian  )
