noooooooo!
Sad news. What a wonderful show, from an era when the evils of political correctness had not entered our lives.

Camp as a row of tents, but a great series. Archetypal British comedy. Sad to see her pass.

Captain Stephen Peacock (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0861530/): Miss Brahms...?
Miss Shirley Brahms (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0723910/): Yes, I know, Captain Peacock. I'm late.
Captain Stephen Peacock (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0861530/): Not good enough, Miss Brahms. You are fifteen minutes late. What would happen if everybody else was fifteen minutes late?
Miss Shirley Brahms (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0723910/): The store would open at quarter past.
Captain Stephen Peacock (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0861530/): Have you an explanation?
Miss Shirley Brahms (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0723910/): Yes. It's Friday. I haven't got any money. And I couldn't afford the bus fare. I had to hitchhike.
Captain Stephen Peacock (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0861530/): Well you should have left home earlier.
Miss Shirley Brahms (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0723910/): I did. I stood on the corner, and lifted my skirt and showed a bit of stocking like Marilyn Monroe did in "Bus Stop".
Captain Stephen Peacock (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0861530/): What happened?
Miss Shirley Brahms (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0723910/): The bus crashed and I had to make a statement.

She was great. I never saw Eastenders but loved her in Are You Being Served. It is still a favourite with us and as already said, does not suffer from the current era's stifling political correctness, so it can be genuinely funny.

I never watched East Enders but I was a fan of are you being served:)
We lost John Inman in the last couple of years, and now Wendy, sad loss at a reasonably young age:(
RIP Wendy, a great comedian.
I noticed That "Are you being served" ran for 13 years which means I have only seen less than half of them.

Agreed. I still love her character's full name;
Mary Elizabeth Jennifer Rachel Yiddell Abergavenny Slocombe
I loved the way the character mixes up words and meaning with all masterful double entendres. I.e. Like when talking about "having sex", she always called it "committing misconduct".
Many of the words and phrases she keep deliberately 'strangling the language' and mixing them up, as if she had kind of dyslexia. The script writers were found a gem in being able to act it out the comedy.
By the way, her bundle of fluff, the cat, was named Tiddles
She sure did bring a lot of pleasure to this world.
