Hello Maree and welcome to iceinspace:)
an erecting eyepiece enables you to see things in the daylight the right way up.
in the night time there is really no up or down astronomically speaking.
I presume the telescope you have is a refractor.
I am sure there will be others who will give you more information if you require it.
:hi::hi::hi: Hi Maree :welcome: to IIS

here is a link on erecting eyepieces if you want to check it out

Hi Maree and welcome to just about the best hobby in the world.
One thing I have learned about astronomy is there are no silly questions. No one can know everything, and because most of us really want to share knowledge almost any question will be answered. Of course while there are no silly questions, that doesn't mean there are no silly answers!

Oh I thought erecting eyepiece was something for when you pointed your telescope at nearby nudie beach...
