Hi all. Wondering how many members are planning to view the total solar eclipse on the 22nd July this year. Shanghai will be a popular destination as it is on the path of totality which will last almost 6 minutes there. Weather and local atmospheric conditions, ie air pollution, will be major factors for this one. I'll be there, but also taking the opportunity to see some of the tourist attractions in Beijing, etc.

I was very fortunate to travel to Zimbabwe from Scotland to see totality on the 21st June 2001 for what was an extremely memorable event. I've attached a couple of my images, mid totality and third contact, to whet your appetites! Russ

Stunning images, Russ. I wish I could make it but it's not gonna happen.

There's a thread here (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=41526) which also discusses it.

On a tour and tickets booked. I think our group is going to Hangzhou (spelling), cloud cover at 51%, which is the best along the route of land based sites. Looking forward to it. My second Total. Was hooked after seeing the first one.

Nice images Russ. I'd love to see Solar Eclipse in China but due to work commitment, it is not likely to happen.

But I have booked myself for Total Solar Eclipse in Cairns in 2012.
