Horsehead Ha added

I discovered a couple of weeks ago that the "Ha" filter in my camera was in fact the S11 filter (they look sooo much alike - the Ha filter when held up to a torch light or bright light is a similar shade of red but much lighter).

No wonder the 7:15 hours of "Ha" turned out relatively dim.

So I shot 1:50 hours of Ha the other night and it was fine.

So I have added this to my Horsehead image. It must be the only one around that has over 7 hours of S11 data in it!

I plan on taking even more clear and RGB data on this next trip to top it off as I have invested over 17 hours of exposure time in this one now.

I very much like the top half, but the bottom blue/grey area looks a bit painted. Is that the S11 dominance?

This one is with nearly 2 hours of Ha. No need for more I don't think as the Ha was smooth and silky and noise free.



Yes it is a bit. I may have handled that a bit better on the earlier version.
Not sure if its the S11 - I don't think so as the S11 is like a dim noisy Ha.
The S11 did bring out the lower dark areas better though. I can work on that aspect a bit more , I thought the same thing.

Very nice work Greg, terrific detail in the image, but some slight amount of noise present on my LCD, great impact overall.

I have to agree with Baz on this Greg ... looks speckled and very noisy in the dark regions ... for such a long exposure I would have expected it to be smooth troughout the entire image. I'm sure it's nothing a repro couldn't fix.

No worries.

I think I should redo this from the bottom up. There were a few luminance frames that had trailed stars as well that should be left out.
I want this to be my flagship image and the data so far is worth it and its worth it to get more data before its gone for the year. Its already past the meridian by dark.
