Hi Everyone,

After a few tries with only a little bit of data, and with encouragement from Trevor (Quark) and many others, I have attempted to add a few passes of the night of 28th January together to bolster the data. I was trying to figure out how I could get more than 30 secs on a high magnification pass with a DOB, and then realised I could stack multiple runs together in Registax and use the LOT. ;). I used Mike's trick of looking at the stack list and being brutal on the crappy frames to leave only the good ones. I think I am getting better at it. Increased the overall contrast to 200% to bring up the lightness of the disc.

Here is the latest effort from this stack of data, I hope you like it.

Details:

Scope: 305cm Skywatcher Flex Dob, FL = 1500mm
Camera: Philips Toucam Pro II @ Prime Focus
Magnification: 2.5x APO GSO Barlow
Frames: best 954 frames stacked in Registax from 4 passes of approx 30 secs each captured at 30 fps
Time: 14:40 - 15:02 UTC (4 separate captures)
Processing: LR deconvolution and Wavelets applied in Astra Image Pro, levels and wavelet touch up in GIMP

Thanks for looking. :)

Cheers

Chris

Hi there Chris,

What a great image, 100% improvement.

This is a truly excellent result with a Dob, you should be very proud of this effort. The extra data makes just so much difference.

Well Done
Regards
Trevor

 Thanks Eliminator. :) I was trying to figure it all out when I remembered......"I have detailed files" ;)

Thanks so much Trevor for your encouragement, the tips you gave me not only helped with thinking about the data I had, but also made me SLOW DOWN and take my time with it, stripping bad frames and tweaking here and there.

Its great to have such a fabulous head start by having all the IIS library of expertise, Mike's and everyone's learning curves etched in history in this website has just made my learning that much faster. Its sort of like starting the climb to the tip of Everest after being dropped off 3/4 the way up by helicopter. :) Thanks everyone.

I must say that the Skywatcher collapsible DOB is VERY GOOD for the money and I love using it. I hope the smoky Sydney skies play nice for the Quadmoon Shuffle tonight on Saturn, I would be chuffed if I could get some quality shots of this event. Here's hoping.

Thanks again for the comments, and the help.

[music playing off stage - they're winding me up!]

Cheers

Cheers Renormalised. Its funny just how much difference aperture and a good quality mirror makes. Best purchase I have made so far.

Thanks Mike, just call me Grasshopper, Master. ;)
I cant wait for some actual clear sky now, pity about last night, a few moons on the disc would have been quite impressive. I will go back to painting the fence and waxing the car.......wax on.......wax off......wax on........

Cheers

Thanks Jen,

I would keep em coming, but the flu and no SKY due to clouds is hampering my efforts, missed out on the moon transit last night and not happy as I stayed up for it and no joy.

Thanks for the comments, :thanks:
