Rightyo you lot!
There is enough experience here to share with everyone!
Let's have them! The best astrophotography targets in the sky for this month of February.
Maybe we could do a similar thread each month so we are all learning, teaching, comparing results and growing together, apples for apples.
I will start with my list
Early to late evening:
M42 The Orion Nebula
Horsehead and Flame Nebulae
M83 The Southern Pinwheel Galaxy
NGC3372 Eta Carina
Early morning to pre-dawn:
The Rosette and Triffid Nebulae
So what's on your target list?
Baz.:D
For the Planetary Nebula enthusiasts
Mid to Late Evening
NGC 3242 - Ghost of Jupiter
Mag 9.0 in Hydra
NGC 3132 - Eight Burst Planetary
Mag 8.0 in Vela
NGC 3918 - Blue Planetary
Mag 8.0 in Centaurus
Three lovely planetary Nebula's in the Eastern sky.
Cheers

M83 is on my to do list, as is the triffid (If I can fit it into frame! :)) I'd also like to have a go at NGC 4565 early one morning soon... I think it will make a nice target for the C11 + ST9E

I think a monthly Imaging Challenge along with a monthly Best DSO Targets List would be a great idea. Will get a lot more people interested and have a go at imaging. Will also make deciding on which object to image much easier. ;)
The Triffid is on my to do list for this month. One of my Favourite objects to image. :)

Hey Guys,
I'm just starting astrophotography (took my first M42 Saturday night!). I'm usinig an ED80 on an EQ6 Pro (unguided) with an old Canon DSLR at prime focus.
Which of the mentioned DSOs are suited to my equipment? I'm planning a weekend trip to the Grampians in the near future - given a couple of nights with dark skies what should be my priorities?
I'm really excited by this aspect of astronomy and can't wait to get out under the sky again!
Colin.

M46
I imaged it last month with the Gstar and it turned out OK, the planetary nebula showed up well.
But this time I want to see what I can do with the DSLR.
