As I mentioned in another post, the GOTO on my Nexstar died suddenly on Valentine's Day. Took it in to York (Melb) today who agreed it was dead. Fortunately it is only the handset which died, the electro-mechanical section is OK. They are getting me a replacement handset under warranty.

A good night's sleep coming up. Should be back under the stars by the end of the week. :astron:

My GOTO mount just came back from Extravision in Brisbane. It spat the dummy last Wednesday - took it to Andrews on Thursday - back this Wednesday and all fixed (luckily one month before the 2 yr warranty expires).

The mount died while I was attempting to update the mount firmware, using Celestron's Motor Control program. It had a write error and suggested re-starting. OK. "No telescope found". Code 16 which I found = RA problem. (17 = Dec)

For anyone else with a Celestron mount under warranty, I would recommend attempting a mount firmware upgrade before the warranty expires, especially as the turnaround is so fast (or at least is was in my case).

Hopefully Geoff this is the last update you will need to make. My guess is, if its working OK, it doesn't need an update.

Robert - I hope so too. A few bugs had crept into the mount and its accuracy was not good - even after a 2 star alignment and 4 calibration stars. The current Motor Control firmware update was to ensure there were no problems in the firmware - turned out there was. They replaced the dodgy ROMs.
