Hi all
I wrote a short preview of Jupiter Season 2009. I'm looking forward to a long, productive season of imaging the gas giant!

I can't wait to get out there!

So what new tricks/approaches do you have in mind for this season, Mike?

I'll have the cooling system for the whole season this year - last year I only had it after opposition. So that should definitely make a difference in the first half of the season.
Otherwise, pretty much the same old routine. Get out there as often as possible and hope for good seeing.
At my place, the best seeing is usually between March and May so I've gotta make the most of it then.
I can't afford a new planetary camera so i'll be sticking with the DMK.

Hooray I'm also looking forward to some nice crisp mornings observing the gas giant, I'm moreso excited because I didn't really get much opurtunity last year to view it properly :D

:)Thanks for the reminder on those conjuctions. So often I read about them at the start of the month and then they slip my mind when they come around.
Tried to find this am, but too cloudy - supp to be close with Mars and Mercury.

What! Jupiter season already? To me Saturn season hasn't started yet. Opposition in early March and yet to observe a Titan transit!!

Thanks for that Mike. I looked for it this morning, with binoculars but there was too much light to find Jupiter.

haha we're still in the early stages of Saturn season so we've got loads of viewing oppurtunities ahead us yet :)
Jupiter is waayyy too low currently to get any real decent view of it. Around late March/early april it'll reach a decent altitude in the dawn sky.
