Hasselblad HD3-50

Been having a look at the new Hasselblad HD3-50 and downloaded the specs. What a sweet piece of kit!!!. I thought it'd be a lot more expensive than what it was (nearly $43K Oz), but it's still pretty pricey. Here's both the "official" official site and the Oz site if you want to take a look....

I nearly fell over when I found out how many pixels it has...50 million!!!!:eyepop:

It'd be sweet if you could connect one of these to your scope, however I think most scopes would have a hard time getting their light cones to focus across the full width of the chips in the camera....nearly 50mm. Plus you'd have to mod the camera by removing the IR filter....on a $43K camera that's something you'd really have to be sure of doing!!!:eyepop:

The phocus software though.....that is one awesome piece of software. Was watching the demo on the site....makes processing a cinch. More intuitive to use than PS by the looks of it, plus it runs on both Mac and PC/Windows.

As I said...a great camera. Technically excellent, takes fantastic pics and is a thing of beauty itself. Well worth owning if you have the money to buy one.

Sounds like the new Kodak KAF 50100 (http://www.kodak.com/global/en/business/ISS/Products/Fullframe/index.jhtml?pq-path=11937/11938/14425) sensor.

My knowledge on 'blads is very limited, but, the last time they launched the 30 megapixel camera, I read that there was no bulb exposure; you were limited to 30 seconds, and maximum ISO was ISO-400.

No good for astrophotography, really.

No, that's not. I'm still going over the 50's specs.....it may not be any good, either. Even so, what a great camera for normal shots.

Just had a look at the specs.....pretty much the same. Only to ISO400 (software pushed to 800), no bulb. What a pity.

Someone should make a camera and use the same chip, but have all the extra ISO speeds, bulb and the other goodies thrown in.

if you can put up with 1 minute subs you can crank one of these babies up to iso800 :D

I have a Hasselblad XPan for doing panoramic photography ... would be great if they ever brought out an affordable digital back for it one day. Great little camera ... beautiful lenses.

It'd be great if you could stick one of them...or the Phase One cameras, onto the end of your scope!!!. Imagine a 60mp shot!!!. Especially in medium format!!!. Talk about widefield....

The hasselblad cameras are worlds ahead of the canon/nikon gear that is for sure.. Not so suited to astrophotography, but for landscape/portrait and other still life shooting, they are utterly astounding.... Be it with a 35mm, medium format or digital back on it.. Their lenses are absolutely awesome, and the photographs produced are just brilliant...
