Hi all,

Last night I noticed the seeing was well above average
here in Adelaide and I made the most of it.

Thanks Doug for the company, although you were a few hundred
kms away :).

Fantastic work steve! that Eta shot shows lots of promise! Got that color filter wheel up and running yet? Would be nice to see some color in these!

All looks to be going well for you in any case!

ps. Send me some clear skies mate!! :D

Cheers
Alex.

I'm a little confused ?
Are these 5 sec images or 60 sec ones ?
Must be near the end of the week lol.

Great piccies, Steve. I especially like the one of the Keyhole:). Only thing that detracts from it is the join line between your two frames....it's quite noticeable.

Nice images Steve. The images have come up very well. Got the black and white sorted now you need to move to some colour and show everyone what can be achieved with a DSI and a few filters.

Nice to have someone to chat to while imaging. Good to talk with you again.

Now that's better!!!...no more stitch line:)

Now it's a top image:)

Some more neat work Steve, the lots of short subs approach works very well for high res work at leats on bright targets anyway.

The Cen A shot is particularly good as far as resolution goes.

I can't tell from the size image you have posted so to check if you have some really good resolution in that image, look at your raw data and see if the arrowed star is clearly two stars and if it is you indeed have excellent resolution

There's also several globs in the shot as well....not only good res' but also lots of light being taken in there as well. Pretty deep.

Great shots Steve. You've nailed the focus - well done. As Alex says get that filter wheel happening - Cent A looks a treat in colour.

Hi,

thanks everyone for the feedback,

Mike, the raw FIT doesn't get much better with every type
of deconvolve/sharpen/ Umask I throw at it....so failing that
I can still :
1. Simply take more frames on a night of good seeing.
2. Be a bit more fussy over the 'handpicking' of frames.
3. turn on PEC
4. All 3 :)

Another big contributor is the stability of the GEM platform.
If I can use 200 from 300 frames in a stack and get this sort
of resolution( keeping in mind I am imaging at 1500 FL),
that's gotta be saying something about how good I'm tracking.
I'm not using autoguiding here.

1 min frames with that kind of FOV showing nice round stars is fantastic without guiding Steve... and to be honest, I think the results are awesome! Sure, going to 3~5 min subs would make a fantastic difference, but that being said... the detail and resolution you're achieving is great!

Err.....it is only 5 sec frames Alex....the night Doug and I were both
shooting 5128 from different parts of Oz, I showed him a 30 sec
frame on live preview....whenever the PE hits the 'sweet spot' and
is between the bad parts of the error, I can get away with a
few 30sec shots.
Those shots show promise....but I'd be imaging for probably 6 hours
and only maybe get a few dozen useable frames for a stack.

Well done Steve,
Some nice work there, I think many DSO's are well suited to black & white, seems to bring out the finer detail.
