I was looking at some sites trying to decide on my first narrow band image and saw a great Hubble shot. This got me to thinking of one of those silly comparisons with a small Earth based scope :D
Just for fun:

Not really a repro as such...so don't hang me...

That's pretty damn good there Mike, considering the difference in aperture. Let's not even mention the difference in atmosphere...

You're not that far off it....for a 6" on the ground and a CCD camera, it's not a bad shot!!!:)

Your image is very good Mike, but I guess you are now saving up to get into space to get a better one.

Bugger Buy hubble Mike you could sell lots of hours on rent a scope. Would that put you in the semi pro league for the DM's?

Greg, Eta Carine is sick of being photographed, so just like hollywood celebs, its starting to get quite the attitude problem towards us astro-paparazzi.. :D

Love the colours Alex Fredo would be proud of ya!
While it does look very vibrant and on the surface at least, to be a similar comparison, err?.. you have simply shrunk the Hubble shot down to match your field  What you need to do if you wish to demonstrate the resolution capability of your system is zoom in on a small bit of your frame and compare "that" to the same bit by Hubble. Most images look high res when displayed in wider field but small size.
Sorry if I sound like a wowser and I am not trying to deminish your display as it does look very nice, bit like a gelatto like icecream even? :P

lol I like the gelatto vs Icecream comment.. Gelatto almost looks the goods, but when you get down to the nitty gritty of it, its just not the same! :)
My field is pretty heavily cropped to match the size of the ACS image of M42 that I found...
I would zoom in on a particular area.. however the comparison then is nowhere near as interesting :) :P
I'll add, my image was 40sec exposures... 20 mins data total :P unguided..
(anything to help it seem impressive :D)
There are areas in my image that show a lot of detail even zoomed right up.. I'll pick a good spot (something interesting) and post it up later tonight :D

Mike,
You've done well to capture the "finger"
I've always wondered if it could be imaged...might have to give it a go someday at F11 with the C14!
